Cancer Survivorship E-Learning Series for Primary Care Providers
The Cancer Survivorship E-Learning Series is a free continuing education program that provides a forum to educate primary care providers (PCPs) who may have patients who are cancer survivors about how to better understand and care for survivors in the primary care setting. Continuing education credits (CEs) are available at no cost to participants for each 1-hour module.

Bipartisan Bill to Improve Cancer Care is Introduced in House by Representatives Capps and Boustany

On June 25, 2013, Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-CA) and Congressman Charles Boustany, Jr., MA, (R-LA) introduced the Planning Actively for Cancer Treatment (PACT) Act (H.R. 2477) to improve care coordination for Medicare patients with cancer. Read more about the bill.

ACCC Survey Shows Impact of Sequester Across All Sites   

A recent
survey administered by the Association of Community Cancer Centers indicates that the 2% reduction to Medicare payments that went into effect April 1, 2013, is adversely impacting cancer patients and providers.

Barriers to Breast and Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Care: Perceptions of Primary Care Physicians and Medical Oncologists in the United States

This study found that medical oncologists (MOs) were more likely than primary care physicians (PCPs) to report patient language barriers, insurance restrictions impeding test/treatment use, and patients requesting more aggressive testing. PCPs were more like than MOs to report inadequate training and ordering additional tests because of malpractice concerns.

Building a Navigation System to Reduce Cancer Disparities Among Urban Black Older Adults

This article describes the components of a successful community-academic approach to deliver cancer navigation series to urban Black older adults in Baltimore, Maryland. 
Executive Training on Navigation and Survivorship
Executive Training September 26 & 27, 2013

This interactive two-day training program equips health care professionals with the tools needed to launch and sustain navigation and survivorship programs, two cornerstones of patient-centered care. Participants learn strategic planning techniques for developing, implementing, evaluating and sustaining patient navigation and survivorship programs. At the conclusion of the training, participants walk away with a cohesive institution-specific plan for either a survivorship or navigation program that will enhance the patient focus of their organization.

 

Registration is now open! Deadline for the early bird rate is July 31, 2013. Space is limited and registration will close when capacity is reached. Limited partial scholarships are available for those who quality.
