Welcome to the NSSRA Newsletter. This publication will be sent to all NSSRA members via email and be posted on the NSSRA website, www.nssra.com.

We welcome your comments and ideas for articles in future issues. In addition, if there is an issue troubling you, this newsletter is the appropriate vehicle to bring that topic to the attention of your fellow retailers.

NSSRA Chairman:
We're Focused on Four Issues
To my fellow NSSRA Members:

I'd like to update you on the items that we are currently working on. We are focused on four primary issues.

First, we are continuing to talk with SIA leadership on the buying show schedule, including not only our national show but also the regional shows and the on-snow demos and how this schedule can work for all of us. Your input has been very important on this issue. It would be beneficial if you would continue to voice your opinions to the suppliers and to our reps. It is important that we find solutions that work for all of us.

Secondly, we have a committee that is looking at what I call 'non-retail sales channels.' We feel that there is a lot of product going out from suppliers direct to consumers via programs that are not at all appropriate or productive to the supplier-retailer relationship. Not only are these activities tough on our sales levels but also undermining the validity of the price levels of ski and snowboard products. We will keep you informed on this issue.

We continue to work with SportsOneSource on the very important POS Data Program that NSSRA has partnered with SOS on. This program allows participating retailers to see important sales information each week, in detail, particularly on how and what is selling. Vendors and others can subscribe to receive this information, and NSSRA will benefit financially, allowing the Association to continue working on your behalf. It is very beneficial for retailers to sign up for this program. A sample of recent sales data from SportsOneSource appears later in this newsletter, so you can see just how timely and valuable the information can be. Please contact the NSSRA office or SportsOneSource.  THIS WILL HELP YOU AND NSSRA!!!

Lastly we will be trying to set up meetings between all the components of our Snowsports industry -- retailers, suppliers, reps, and resorts. We know from previous efforts that getting together in one room to talk about mutual issues we all face in this unique business can only improve the future for all of us.

I urge retailers to get involved . Please reach out to me or Larry Weindruch at our office or to any of the NSSRA Directors.

Thanks,

Wilbur Rice

Recall: Boots with Boa Reels
Boa Technology Inc. has recalled about 33,000 pairs of snowboard boots because the Boa secondary reels on them can become stuck in the open position, causing the fit at the forefoot of the boot or tongue to loosen and pose a fall hazard.
