Fall Rainbow Trout Migration Underway in Buffalo River
The annual migration of young rainbow trout from the Henry's Fork into the Buffalo River has been in full swing since mid-September. As of November 8, a total of 3,518 fish have migrated upstream through the Buffalo River fish ladder.

The majority of these fish have been wild rainbow trout, including 1,618 fish smaller than six inches in length. These are just entering their first winter, a critical time for survival.

Water Outlook Continues to Improve

The 2014 water year is off to a good start, thanks to recent rain and snow. As of November 12, snowpack water content is above average, and the Island Park Reservoir stands at 42 percent of capacity. Storing this much water in such a short time has required very low outflows from Island Park Dam, but this strategy will allow flows to double to around 160 cfs during mid-winter when juvenile trout need it most. The Foundation's participation in Drought Management Planning ensures that reservoir operations benefit fish to the greatest extent possible under the constraints of filling irrigation water rights.

Mark Your Calendars for #GivingTuesday
First there was Black Friday, then Cyber Monday. Now we have #GivingTuesday. Taking place December 3, 2013 -- the Tuesday after Thanksgiving -- #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to charitable giving. Several generous donors have upped the ante on #GivingTuesday by offering to match the first $5,000 of year-end gifts made that day. In addition, for a gift of $100 or more, you'll also receive a Montana Fly Company fly box as a thank you!
