"Ed the Eagle Variety Show" a Blast!
If you missed the first-ever "Ed the Eagle Variety Show," never fear!  We had so much fun, we'll be bringing it back next year!

Elementary students showed of a variety of fun talents (dancing, singing, telling jokes) and glorified God with their joy!  Many thanks to our senior-class emcees, Kaleb Jorgenson and Chandell Brown, and to Mrs. Johnson for her coordination of the event.  We're also so grateful for our attendees who gave more than $200 in an offering for elementary music equipment!

Follow-Up on the 50th
More than 300 celebrants joined us on April 21st to celebrate 50 years of Three Rivers Christian School!  Not only did we get a chance to hear the story of the school's history from founder Dr. Jim Conrod and former administrator Jim Chenoweth, but the opportunity to give towards TRCS' future netted nearly $50,000!

Many thanks to the team of staff and volunteers who created such a beautiful event -- and to Newlife for the use of their sanctuary for this very special celebration.  We're looking forward to what the next 50 years can bring!
Who Are We, Anyway?
I recently attended the ACSI Administrator's Conference in Seaside, Oregon.  Generally focused on providing opportunities for professional development in school leadership, the group of administrators that I was sitting with were given a few chances to start some interesting discussions.

Kevin Washburne, the Keynote Speaker at the event, had just finished telling us that one of the biggest problems he saw in many Christian schools was that they had not defined themselves -- especially through the lens of what they valued.  He stated that most schools have core values that are so general as to be completely forgettable.  He said the "great" schools are the ones that know who they are and where they're going, and that use their core values to determine their direction.

At TRCS, the core values on you see around our facilities (ACADEMICALLY EXCELLENT, JOYFULLY CHRISTIAN, CULUTRALLY RELEVANT) really are a determining factor in the decisions that we make.  When considering a change of program or a new opportunity, we ask ourselves if it aligns with these values.

One of the administrators at my table asked me about the "culturally relevant" piece.  He said, "Aren't we supposed to be 'in the world, but not of it?" he said, paraphrasing John 17:16, which quotes Christ as saying, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of it."

Interestingly, John 17:18 follows with Jesus saying: "As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world."  In explaining cultural relevance, we think of this "into the world" piece.  There are multiple examples in the Bible of individuals being used for their unique knowledge and understanding of their culture -- and for their ability to operate within that culture.  Moses, Joseph, Esther, Paul... the list includes nearly all of the great stories in the Bible.  These were people who were uniquely equipped to be catalysts for amazing things BECAUSE of the understanding they had of the culture of their times.  We can equip kids to understand that they are created in the image of a loving God with souls that were built for eternity -- and that, as Christians, we are sent "into" the world to show Christ's love -- not to hide in a corner or keep to ourselves!  It's why we choose to partner with our community tackle tough issues head-on (like our "Tackling the Tough Stuff" event last weekend that had more than 200 attendees), and to embrace technology while teaching discernment to our children:  our children need the tools to understand the world they're called to impact!

After our discussion, another seasoned administrator leaned over to me and said, "Sounds like your school has a great thing going."

We do!

Debra Zandi Early Learning & Child Development Center

Children are learning even before birth. The early years are the most extraordinary period of growth and development in the lifetime of a child and we have been blessed with the wonderful children currently enrolled in our Center. I marvel at God's creation as we acknowledge the rapid and crucial development of the brain in the first year of life and acknowledge that nurturing the whole child from birth through 3rd grade begins building a strong Foundation of a Lifetime of Learning.
Preschool teachers have been gathering a variety of materials for each student's portfolios and will be sharing essential information with parents during the preschool plus 3's scheduled conferences the week of May 16th. The conference provides opportunity for dialogue between teacher and parent as we partner together in providing quality early education for all students.
This is a very exciting time for our Pre-Kindergarten students as they visit kindergarten classrooms and then move forward celebrating the milestone of graduation into kindergarten. It is that precious time to recognize and celebrate with each child what the Lord has done and a time to rejoice with families. Pre-Kindergarten teachers will be sending further information home regarding these special event times.
Our teachers provide a learning environment rich in curriculum that affirms and supports the development and discovery for every child. Core integrated curriculums include: WEE Learn, Making a Difference, Core Concepts of Early Literacy, BIBLE and Exploring God's World. The Washington State Early Learning and Development Manual is an essential resource that is used by teaching staff to provide tools and strategies for children Birth through 3rd grade.

We are looking forward to our summer program and eagerly preparing for "TRCS Camp 2016!"   We have 10 weeks to enjoy camp activities filled with exciting adventure, exploration and discovery!
I want to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your continued support, prayers and gracious sharing to TRCELC programs. You make the positive difference and we are thankful!
"For you created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my Mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; I know this full well."

Principal's Message

This month, I would like you to read Carol Karn's thoughts on Foreign Exchange Students. Please Enjoy!

"This past Sunday was Pentecost, the day we remember when the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in other languages. At church we had a moving service embracing this part of scripture! I was literally in tears the whole service (and I am not generally a weepy gal)!

We started with worship, led by the team from the Spanish Church that meets at Northlake Baptist. These wonderful guys led us in worship in both English and Spanish. The leader would pause in between songs and just praise the Lord in his native language. Next, we had the pastor from the Korean church that meets at Northlake share the message in his native tongue! His lovely daughter was there to translate.

Lastly, our Pastor, Mark Schmutz, invited those in the congregation that spoke other languages to come forward. Eight or nine people came forward to pray a 30-second prayer in their language! We had people pray in several of the Filipino dialects, French, German, Korean, Spanish, and even Nepalese! I just cried because all of these people were praying to the same God that we all worship. It was a glimpse of heaven.

As Christians, we are under a mandate to "Go ye into all the world and make disciples!" Some of us cannot go, so I am presenting an opportunity to "bring back to." We feel a strong call at Three Rivers Christian High School to welcome students from other countries to our school. This year we had five students from Italy, China, Spain and Taiwan! What an adventure we have been on! But our hope is that while they are with us for the school year, they would learn who Christ is and take a piece of Him back to their countries and impact their circle of influence for Christ! If you have been on the fence about whether or not to host a foreign exchange student, may I encourage you to take the plunge and bring one back to your home? The results could impact another country eternally!  If you would like more information on what it takes to host please just call the high school at 636-1600.

I would love the chance to speak to you!"

Athletic Director's Message

The senior class of 2016 will always be special to me. When I was hired at Three Rivers, this was the first class I taught. It has been a privilege to watch, teach, love, and share our lives together.

The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1: 7-9: "Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus to be revealed. He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus our Lord, is faithful."

As the senior class eagerly awaits graduation I want to remind them all that you do not lack. God will keep you. You are blameless in His eyes. He has called you. He is faithful. You are a special class of young people with so many giftings to impact our world. Finish the next few weeks strong and ready yourselves for an exciting future!
