Counting Blessings...
For most of us, the pace of life during the school year is incredibly fast. We don't often take much time to contemplate the blessings that God puts in our path. As we gear up for the 50th anniversary event and look towards the end of the school year, I'd like to take a minute to list some of the highlight blessings of this year for me:
- TRCS Finances: Not only are we currently operating in the black, but compared to recent years, TRCS is in ever-improving financial shape. Our new Business Manager, Jim Conrod, and his amazing team, Linda Mills and Lisa Moore, have been vigilant about preparing us for an audit this summer. While I still joke that we take the term "non-profit" pretty seriously, we are continuing to make much-needed improvements in teacher wages and in repairing deferred maintenance on our buildings.
- Amazing Staff: As we come up to Staff Appreciation next week, I can't say enough how incredibly proud I am of our amazing faculty and staff. While we had a hard time letting go of Mrs. Welch in the elementary office (we love you, Mrs. Welch!), we are so happy with the replacement that God provided in Mrs. Coffee! Again and again, God has sent us passionate, loving, brilliant people -- and THEY are what makes our school so excellent!
- Legacy: Putting together this 50th Anniversary event has been a great experience. In contacting alumni for the short film we're showing at the event, I've spoken to TRCS graduates who are working in the medical fields, who are missionaries in Uganda, India and the Philippines -- even a professional musician and a Harvard Law student. I'm so grateful for the legacy that 50 years of this ministry has wrought. It's easy to leap up out of bed every morning to do the day-to-day job of running a school when the "fruit" of the program is so inspiring.
Please continue to keep TRCS in your prayers. Great things are happening here, and we appreciate all of your support and are so grateful you are part of our community! If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Early Learning & Child Development Center
I would like to share some exciting news! Three Rivers Christian Early Learning Center is participating in Early Achievers, Washington's quality rating and improvement system (QRIS) administered by the Department of Early Learning. As an Early Achievers participant, we are demonstrating our commitment to offering high- quality child care and promoting school readiness.
You might be wondering - what is a QRIS? A QRIS is a process for supporting and rewarding child care providers for providing high-quality care. More than 25 states have a statewide QRIS and Washington began implementing our system July 2012. Similar to a hotel rating, participating child care facilities are assigned a rating based on observed quality. The Early Achievers quality standards look at what we know is good for children and will help them get ready for school - things like our activities and curriculum, how we work with families, and how we interact with children. As a participant, we will get resources to help our program including coaching, training, and scholarships.
Family engagement is an important part of Early Achievers. You can help support our participation by asking questions, providing feedback and staying involved. We will share our rating once it has been assigned and provide more information as needed.
If you still have questions or want more information about Early Achievers, please do not hesitate by giving me a call at 423-4510. I look forward to our continued partnership as we build the foundation of a lifetime of learning for the Success of your child!

This month teachers have been preparing for the TerraNova 3 Standardized Assessments. Students began preparing as well. Most of our efforts are familiarizing students with testing format and language so students have the best opportunity to show their growth. The TerraNova 3 assesses Reading, Mathematics, Language, Science, Social Studies, and Bible knowledge. We also give a cognitive skills and abilities assessment called InView, in grades 2-12. This assessment is composed of five parts: verbal reasoning- words and context, sequences, analogies, and quantitative reasoning.
By administering these assessments, we will be able to see student growth from one year to the next. It also give the staff information to evaluate teaching strategies and curriculum. We should have results by the end of May or early June.
Parents can help their student with encouragement, a good breakfast, and a good night's sleep.
Blessings, Randy Lemiere
