RAISE UP Giving Day - Scheduled for February 23rd, 2016!
Join us on Tuesday, February 23rd for the first ever "RAISE UP" giving day, a 24-hour event that will help fuel our school's mission while shining a national spotlight on the global Christian school movement. Christian schools across America will be joining forces to meet individually set goals -- and donate a portion to international schools!
TRCS has a goal on February 23rd of $10,000 towards the annual fund! We're hoping to meet that goal and purchase a new Chromecart with 24 touch-screen Chromebooks for use on the lower campus. Stay tuned for more information and the link for giving on the 23rd!

"Tackling the Tough Stuff" - Help for families working through difficult youth issues!
People often have a perception that private Christian schools have problem-free kids: no depression, addictions, suicide, or habits of self-harm. At TRCS, we understand that our students and families come to us from many different faith backgrounds and experiences, and we have learned that all of these issues exist in the microcosm of our school. As we learn to handle them and help families, we have the privilege of openly inviting God into the conversation!
However, it continues to be difficult to find tools to help struggling kids in a world that's changing as fast as ours. Last fall I had a conversation with a great youth pastor, Chris Lyons (Longview Community Church) about how our teachers, pastors, counselors and parents need knowledge to identify and help kids who may be struggling with these problems in the social media age. To that end, Chris connected with a mentor of his who developed a fantastic seminar: "Tackling the Tough Stuff." Coordinated by the Center for Parent/Youth Understand (cpyu.org), TRCS is partnering with the local Youth Pastor's Roundtable and YoungLife to bring this event to town. More than fifteen area churches have come alongside to promote this event to their congregations and lend their time and talents in coordination!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14th, 2016 in the New Life Sanctuary (TRCS High School Campus) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m (more info to follow!). This all-day seminar is designed for youth workers, volunteers, parents, educators, counselors, and all others who love and care for children and teens. Youth specialists Walt Mueller and Marv Penner will help you unpack and respond to the tough stuff that's happening in kids' lives. Registration, which costs $10 and includes lunch, will open soon via the TRCS website.
Parents and grandparents, I can't stress enough how important this day may be in helping you help your child (or the child of a friend). Promotional materials will be coming out shortly, so help us spread the word as we find new ways to support the emotional and spiritual health of our children.

Great Opportunities
TRCS provides a great, foundational education, but did you know we have extra classes or programs? One new opportunity for our high school students is participating in "Building In Youth." BIY is a Christian organization that invites students to gain experience in construction; using tools, techniques, and gaining knowledge. Students build ramps for people in the community and other service projects. If you know any student who would be interested, please call the high school office at 636-1600.
TRCS also has an outstanding Title 1 Reading Program at the elementary school. This program is a federally funded program that helps emerging readers. The program's teacher, Ruth Browning, is a retired Longview School District Reading Specialist that is instructing and charting student progress. Another program that Mrs. Browning is teaching is the Barton Reading and Spelling Program. This program is designed to help students with dyslexia and other issues hindering student growth. Although we cannot diagnose dyslexia, we can provide students with innovative programs like this to augment their skills. The Barton program is an extra cost to families, however. Give us a call at the elementary school for more information at 423-4510.
School Is Halfway Over
January 27th, students will get the day off while teachers complete grading for the 1st semester. They also use this day to prepare for the 2nd semester. Can you believe that the school year is halfway over? January 28th is the beginning of the 2nd semester and it's a great time for students to transfer to our school. If you know anyone that is contemplating our school, tell them to come in for a tour! Three new students are making the move at the end of January! That is exciting!
Blessings, Randy Lemiere

TRCS Athletic Update
A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns
Like you, I often get asked the question, " How's it going?"
My response is usually, "Living the dream, thanks for asking."
As I pondered my standard answer this morning, I became aware of two deeper thoughts. First, I don't think anyone has ever responded back with "me too." Second, it makes me feel incredibly grateful to God for allowing me to serve your children.
My life's journey has never been a "planned" path. I am continually amazed at how many students know where they are going and what they are going to do after they graduate. When I graduated I was lost. I did not know where to go or what to do. It was because of this lack of direction that I called out to Christ. He saved me and gave me a burden to serve young people. The burden He placed in my heart at 19 years of age has never left. I am 52 years old. Probably too old to go on school retreats. Too old for late night bus drives. Too old for 15 hour workdays. Feeling old or tired? Listen to the words of Caleb. "So here I am today, 85 years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses (and God) sent me out; I am just as vigorous to go to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but with the Lord helping me I will drive them out as HE SAID!"
If you will be determined to purposely live for God, what He says He will do, He will do! He will save you. He will send you. He will equip you. He will strengthen you. He will give you hill countries. He will break down cities, walls and fortifications. He will drive out enemies. He will allow you to live the dream, if you are willing to do what He says. You're never too old. You're never to young. It's never too late.
"God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ever ask or think according to His power that works in us."
