Christmas Shopping Festival
Thanks to all our vendors and attendees at Saturday's Christmas Shopping Festival! It was a great success, despite the wind and rain!
We were able to add close to $2,000 to our General Fund through table fees and ticket sales! The Student Council is over $100 closer to purchasing a Buddy Bench for the playground and we will be giving all proceeds from the kitchen to the Wenzek Adoption Fund!
A sincere THANK YOU to our AMAZING volunteers! We couldn't host this event every year without you! I am so grateful for all you do!
Sincerely,
Melissa Peabody

For the Love of Reading
"The U.S. Department of Education found that, generally, the more students read for fun on their own time, the higher their reading scores. Between 1984 and 1996, however, the percentage of 12th grade students reporting that they "never" or "hardly ever" read for fun increased from 9 percent to 16 percent."*
I can still remember the sound of Mrs. Norton's voice, and I hear it each time I read a classic children's book to my own daughters. Mary Norton was the Longview Christian School librarian in the early 1980's. An extreme lover of books, her excitement about book orders and library check-out was contagious, and I still credit her with fanning the early flames of my own book-fanaticism. If there's one thing we NEED to infect our children with, it's love a reading.
Mrs. Erickson and our RIF volunteers continue to give our K-3rd grade students an opportunity to own a book of their choice. This year, RIF is short of funds, giving us an opportunity to give back for the many years they've given books to us. Some of the proceeds of our recent Scholastic book fair (which grossed over $3,000!) will be sent to RIF as a "thank you."
Speaking of book fairs, this might have been one of our best yet! And it's not over! This next week, we're holding our first Christian book fair with Lifeway Books. (In Room 2, after school from Nov. 23rd - 25th.) We wanted an opportunity for you to purchase some great Christian titles and Bibles as gifts for our kids for Christmas. Yes, it's a lot of work for Mrs. Nortness and our volunteers - but if it "fans the flames" of enthusiasm for books and Jesus, it's worth it! Let's thank them for all the work.
The middle school classes have substituted some library time and have started a book club. Mrs. Nortness, Mrs. Rollins, Mrs. Erickson and myself are supplying treats (and focus) as we get together weekly to read and discuss our books. It's not for a grade, but just for enjoyment, and it's a great opportunity to bond over books. (If you're interested in volunteering in the future to 'host' a club, please let us know!) We want our kids to associate reading with joy. Maybe they're just associating it with the treats, but overall, we think it's working.
At the high school, our students are scoring consistently high on the language arts sections of their testing. In the most recent English Language Assessment, TRCS students scored a 91%, compared to the 61% state average. Good readers make good writers, and I've heard multiple times that our high school students are some of the best writers participating in the Running Start program.
Our Creator himself knew the power of a good story, and he used a variety of narrative formats in the Bible to express our relationship with Him. Making that accessible to our children has to be a primary focus of our work as educators and parents. As the Christmas season approaches, I encourage you and your family to pick a night where you can shut off the electronics, sit by the tree with a mug of cocoa and read a book. You just might ignite a life-long passion.

November always brings in so much excitement. Veteran's Day... Thanksgiving... and oh yes, Parent Conferences! Please be sure to check classroom and school schedules because there are many changes. The TRCS Veteran's Day Chapels were beautiful experiences. At the elementary campus, Mr. Tony Stout, Marine veteran extraordinaire, gave some of his experiences in the Marine Corps and how God was with him every step of the way. We all sang patriotic songs and praised the Lord as well. We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful country. At the high school Veteran's Day Chapel, teacher Laurel Moore brought her father, Glen Niner. Mr. Niner told of his WWII European experiences. Students were enthralled with Mr. Niner. Conferences are a very important part of a student's progress. Parent conferences are really quite fun. Teachers see the gifts God has given your son/daughter, so there are always positives that parents love to hear during a conference. Obviously, there are also academics or behavior skills to improve upon. Sometimes these things are difficult to hear but parents should be open to teacher's suggestions. Finally, this is a time where we all can give thanks. Please let the teachers know how thankful you are for their love and dedication to your child. We here at TRCS are very thankful and honored that you would send your precious children to get a wonderful Christian education. May the Lord bless all of you this Thanksgiving! Blessings, Randy Lemiere

TRCS Athletic Update
A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns
It has been another great year for TRCS Fall Athletics! The cross country team has a number of "young guns" who are once again having the running community stand up and take note of Eagle athletics. The cross country team placed first in several events and have a bright future ahead. If you are interested in running I would ask you to please contact Kevin Rentner. Kevin is an amazing coach and is already planning great events for next year. If TRCS can get a couple more runners with the existing runners, we would have a great shot at making another run to State!
Speaking of State, our girls once again achieved what only sixteen teams are able to do - advance to the WIAA State Tournament. The team took first in League and second in Districts. A number of awards were given to the Lady Eagles: Kenna Forney and Olivia Cathcart were Second Team, Selena Carns and Chandell Brown were First Team. Jesse Caddel won MPV League for the third straight year. Congratulations ladies for continuing the State run for the seventh year in a row!
Blessings, Tim Carns
