Administrator's Message:  The Core Values of TRCS

An accreditation process forces an organization to look closely at itself.  Who are we and what do we really want for our students?  What sets us apart from other schools?

Last spring during the board retreat, Northlake Baptist Pastor Mark Schmutz mentioned three points that he felt described our school:  (1)  Cultural Relevance, (2) Academic Excellence and (3) Enthusiastically Christian.  I wrote them on a post-it note and attached it to my computer monitor, thinking and talking about them for months before it occurred to me how well these describe our core values as an educational institution.

To that end, the school board recently officially adopted the following as our core values.  (We did change "enthusiastically" to "joyfully," since we felt it was more succinct.)

At Three Rivers Christian School, we believe all students should have the opportunity to learn who they were made to be as part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:10). Discovering their individual gifts and learning to use them to positively impact the world is the consummate goal of the educational experience at TRCS. To that end, we believe that the love we have for these students requires us to be guided by the following core values in our work at TRCS:
  • Academic Excellence: By invoking the name of Christ in our work, we are required to hold ourselves to the highest possible standards (James 3:1-2) in providing enriching and rigorous learning experiences to our children.
  • Joyfully Christian: While the walk of Christian faith may sometimes be marked by hardship and struggle, we are also told that joy and love should be the visible fruit of our relationship with Christ (Galatians 5:22, Psalms 5:11). To be seen as a source of light in the world requires us to show love and service to our students and the larger community (Matthew 5:14). We are made in the image of God who is revealed in Jesus Christ, through whom we are saved - and that salvation brings us the ultimate joy (Psalm 139, John 3:16)!
  • Culturally Relevant: To have the greatest impact in the world, our students must have an understanding of modern culture viewed through a lens of the Christian faith. As a Christian school, we do not want to be exclusive or separatist (Matthew 5:13), and we want to ensure that our students are prepared to use modern technology and media for Kingdom purposes. We want to equip students to be engaged in the world in whatever sphere of influence God calls them to serve, including government, business, health, education, the arts, media, family or the church.

Knowing clearly who we are will help us decide where we're going as we move into the next 50 years of "educating for eternity" at TRCS.  Thank you for being part of our "joyfully Christian" community!

"I will praise you every day; I will praise you forever and ever! " Psalm 145:2

The Hebrew word for praising God means "to celebrate His perfections." I am blessed every day to bear witness to children who celebrate well!! Their grateful hearts, their joyful attitudes and their praising spirits are a constant reminder of the blessing of Three Rivers Christian School!

Happenings on Campus:
  • L.E.E.P: Longview Early Education Partnership has begun the fall pilot assessment for our Pre-Kindergarten students starting this month. The students will take part in the IGDIS (individual growth & development indicators) Literacy Screening Tool.
  • Physical Education for Preschoolers and Pre-Kindergarten: Healthy Kids/Healthy choices P.E. class is taught by Mrs. Kristy Ford and has been added to both Preschool and the Pre-kindergarten curriculum schedules.
  • Music for Early Learners: We have had an outstanding response from our Early Learners Music class! This program is structured to assist children in gaining confidence and strengthening their ability in singing and expressing themselves through music while worshipping and celebrating in joyful expression and is taught by Mrs. Barb Noel and Mrs. Vickie Stagner.
  • Field Trips: Pre-Kindergarten field trips to the fire station and the annual pumpkin patch are on the calendar and scheduled for October.
  • Enrichment Classes: Fall Enrichment Classes for your child will start soon which will include: Baking for Kids, Muppet Style Puppet making, Bird Feeder Creation, and Cheerleading! Click here for schedules.
  • Fundraiser: Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough and Candle fundraiser kicks off October 1st. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards classroom learning tools and play equipment. Please feel free to place an order. You are truly appreciated and make a positive difference to us all!!!

Principal's Message

Well, we've had quite a beginning of a school year. At the elementary campus, new programs and teachers have changed the face of the school. The new STRIVE program is taking shape with Mrs Nortness, as well as the new technology and library programs. Our new Spanish program and teacher, Mrs. Elsa Vidra, is Excelente!

Other new teachers like Mrs. Takko in 3rd, Mr. Wenzek in 6th/7th, and Mr. Royce in P.E. are amazing! Mrs. Browning, our new Title I teacher, is an expert in her field. Mix them with the high quality teachers from last year and you have a recipe for student success. I am so humbled to work with these Christian people who love kids.

Words are hard to express when I think about what has happened to the high school. Only God could have moved a high school in two months! Only God could have replaced terrific teachers with terrific new teachers! Only God could have orchestrated a partnership with New Life Fellowship! Who could have guessed that would happen? Our God knew! Please remember to thank and praise Him for the many blessings He gives for the entire Three Rivers Christian Ministry.

Lastly, I'd like to thank all of the volunteers that helped move the high school to the new location at New Life Fellowship. Each day of the move, God sent the perfect person to move specific items. When we needed muscle, He sent strong men. When we need cleaning, boxing, and organizational skills, He sent the perfect people. Thank you for your help over the summer. May the Lord bless you richly!

TRCS Athletic Update
A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns

tim carns
Hebrews 6:15 says, "After waiting patiently Abraham received what was promised." I think this verse really summarizes much of what TRCS has been going through. Waiting, patience, receiving and promise. My experience with God is He very rarely works on my timetable and in my methodology. When this happens we often try to force God's hand (e.g. Hagar - Genesis 16), rather then waiting, trusting, and receiving. When we wait on God and trust "all things work together for the good of those who love God and have been called according to His purpose," we can then rest in His promises and be assured He will provide.

I am grateful to God for always coming through in my life, family, and our wonderful school. There are still many questions, needs, and much work to be done at TRCS. My prayer is we can all focus not on what we still need or do not have, rather we see what God has done and will continue to do. Please be patient in all the things that still need to be done, and know God is providing. If you have any questions or concerns about athletics or the gym remodel, feel free to contact me.
