TRCS High School students participate in DRESSEMBER

Three Rivers Christian High School is participating in a "fashion challenge" to bring awareness to the problem of human trafficking in our area. Girls have pledged to wear a dress (and some have pledged to wear the same dress) and boys are wearing a ribbon of support every school day in December. Nationally the movement is called Dressember. www.dressemberfoundation.org
Anna Claunch, student council Vice President, brought the idea to the student council and they were quick to get on board. Some students like Anna are wearing a dress every day in December and are raising money as well.
Wearing dresses is a way that we can embrace femininity and advocate for women and children who are exploited. Dressember (the organization) is aligned with International Justice Mission, a human rights organization that works to rescue victims of slavery, sexual exploitation, and other forms of violent oppression. Those who participate in Dressember are supporting the abolition of modern day slavery.

Administrator's Message: Why does TRCS matter?
It's easy to fall into a routine in life. After almost 50 years, it can be easy to fall into a routine as an organization. At TRCS, we don't want to forget what sets us apart as educators.
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to speak to some of our major supporters at our "Greatest Gift" breakfast. When you get a group of donors in the room, you want them to understand why you wake up every morning excited to do what you do, so I thought I'd try to answer this question: "Why does TRCS matter?"
As a private Christian school, we get the unique opportunity to not only impart knowledge to our students, but to give them the "big picture" of biblical wisdom. As my little sketch below shows, our job at TRCS isn't just to teach them the Common Core (although we're doing that and more!). We believe that each child is created with individual gifts, and it's our responsibility to immerse them, mind, body and spirit, in the pool of God's knowledge. It's an uncommon goal in today's world, which is why I've been calling it "the Uncommon Core." If we're doing our jobs well, TRCS students will graduate with an understanding of who God made them to be (their gifts) and what God made them to do (their purpose).
Our friends working in the public school have an incredible challenge: they're working to educate American citizens to be functional and capable in today's ever-changing workplace. But at TRCS, our responsibility is a little different: we want our students to be functional and capable contributors to God's workplace, too. And if you look at our alumni, you'll see students impacting the world in many amazing ways.
It's an incredible gift to be part of that preparation, and to help our children as they develop "roots, dreams and wings." I'm so grateful to the many donors who gave so generously at our recent breakfast event (more than $10,000 at the event, plus more than $60,000 in future pledges!). We have an incredible opportunity at TRCS, and it's bigger than "private education." This school is planting incredible seeds, and the love and support given to TRCS by our school community is making an amazing difference in these lives -- who will in turn make an amazing difference in the lives of others. Isn't it a great thing to be a part of?
Merry Christmas!

Here's an update on life at TRCS:
High School Christmas Program - December 8th, the TRCS Band, Worship Team, and our Independent Music Class performed their music. It was a wonderful night of talent, music, and worship. Thanks go to Mr. Harbaugh, our band teacher, Mrs. Moore, our independent music class teacher, and Josh Anderson our worship team leader. Check out a clip of our worship team in action here.
Emergency Packets - Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Woodman, and Mrs. Welch completed an outstanding emergency packet for the elementary campus which will be distributed shortly. Not only will it be essential for emergencies on campus, but each family will receive one to take home as well. This communication packet is excellent.
Student Activities - Students were involved in our community in several ways. Here are the events: Walk-n-Knock, CAP help, Warm Clothing Items, Toilet Paper for Community House, and Sole to Soul.
Accreditation - Scott Grove has been working with our teachers to further the accreditation process. He'll also be providing us with additional professional development opportunities in the new year. Many thanks to this incredible educator! Blessings.......Mr. Lemiere "Let your light so shine, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." |
TRCS Athletic Update
A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns

TRCS Basketball season is off and running. The girls varsity is approaching a new season with a new coach (Mitch Stanberry
) and a newer, faster approach. They are playing an up-tempo, fast break, fun-to-watch style of basketball. Our girls are enjoying the pace and are going to see team success as they continue to see growth through a tough non-league schedule.
The boys' varsity is also being tested by the toughest non-league schedule in school history. Our boys will be playing what I believe to be three of the top five teams on the west side of the state.
This past Saturday our boys played Shorewood Christian in a rematch of our round one loss at state. The Eagles played their best basketball of the season and came away with a big win. If you were not able to attend please go to TDN and read the great article in the Sunday Daily News. Make sure to check out game times and places on the school website. GO EAGLES!
Blessings,
Tim Carns
