"For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end." Psalm 48:14
He (our God) "will be our guide" as we journey into a new school year at TRCS! It is always exciting starting a new school with new teachers and new classrooms and new faces! Our journey into the 2014-2015 promises new things and also some changes. Remember the quote, "Change can be our friend"? And the quote, "Change is hard"? All true at some level depending on the situation and circumstances. We continue to trust in the Lord through the journey He leads us in and changes He takes us through. After all, TRCS is all about Him and providing a high quality educational experience that has Him at the center of the curriculum and school operations. Please continue to pray daily for our students and staff as we step into the day-to-day journey experiencing the joy of being together and working together in Him!
I am personally delighted in serving with such a wonderful and committed group of school administrators at TRCS. These folks have the heart and passion for Christian education and strive to give all that is needed for student success and school success. As we together work to make TRCS even better this year, we continue to ask for your continued input, participation and support. We want to have a partnership with our families as we go about daily schooling and even looking into our school's future. Stay tuned for information and communication as some changes occur and the journey in the Lord continues!
Blessings,
Scott

Lunchroom Volunteers Needed!
Both campuses are looking for volunteers to help with lunch duties. The elementary campus lunches run between 11:15 and 12:45, and the high school campus between 11:30 and 12:30. Our lunchroom volunteers relieve a huge burden from our staff -- and it's a fun time to connect with the kids! Background checks are required. Please call us (423-4510) or email us if you're available!

Elementary School Update
 |
Jim Chenoweth, Interim Elementary Principal
|
It is great to be back at Three Rivers Christian after four years of retirement! I love being able to reconnect with kids, families and staff. I have especially enjoyed seeing more "second generation" students. That brings to mind the significant role grandparents can have in encouraging and even helping make it possible for the next generation to receive the blessing of a Christian school education.
Enrollment has picked up, but most classes are still quite small which allows for personalized attention. We have added 15 minutes to the school day, starting at 8:30 and still dismissing at 3:15. This allows for increased instructional time as well as a better commute for families with kids at both campuses.
I hope you saw the article in the Daily News a while back about our Kindergarten Bridge program. I think this will be an effective way to engage young students with a more hands-on approach. If you missed that, we have copies available in the school office, or by clicking here. Even if your kids are older, you might consider passing on a copy of the article to someone you know who has a Kindergarten-aged child. Statistics show that word of mouth is the most effective means of attracting new families to a private school. You bless our school when you share positive things about us with others.
Former students and parents - I'd love to have you stop by and see me. I don't know how long this interim period will last, but I'm having a good time!
-Jim

GREAT NEWS!
It's a fresh school year, and if your children are anything like my own, there's a lot of excitement over the blessings of new school clothes and backpacks. My daughter keeps reminding me how much she "loves the smell of freshly sharpened pencils!"
We've got so much to be thankful for this year, but I wanted to briefly recap some of the amazing blessings we've received this summer:
-
Our Building Maintenance Fund need was met, and all necessary repairs are complete!
- The tire swing purchased by Student Council fundraising is INSTALLED. (Thanks, Mr. Stout!)
- We raised over $1,000 in five hours for the Tuition Assistance Fund thanks to donations from Terry Taylor parking.
- Raffle Ticket sales for the trip to Great Wolf and the "Dr. Who" Tardis are helping to grow our Tuition Assistance Fund.
- The Fred Meyer Community Rewards Program has brought us very generous quarterly donations.
- Families are signing up for the Amazon Smile program, which will bring more donation funds to our school. (Make sure to select "Longview Christian School" as your non-profit of choice. We're still working on getting the name updated with them.)
- An anonymous donor has once again underwritten special awards to be given to our most innovative teachers to thank them meaningfully for the contributions they bring to the classrooms.
- Work on the development of the high school is continuing, and it's WONDERFUL to see our community rally around this ministry. More news will follow!
We have a sizable goal to fill this year for Tuition Assistance: $75,000. It's our biggest goal yet, but we feel hopeful that our school community will help to meet this need. Onward and upward! Erin |

High School Update
If you will be involved with TRCS High School in any way, be ready for a great year! We have great senior leadership, outstanding teachers, and a new high school building in the works! God is really blessing TRCS so get ready for a great year.
Student Enrollment for Grades 8-12
Student enrollment at the high school looks strong. At the time of this writing, numbers appear to be as good as last year and may be higher with the addition of three foreign exchange students (two from Germany and one from China) and 12 new students from our area. Total numbers should be 100 students or more!
New Teachers
TRCS has been blessed with new teachers at the high school. Here is the list of our new teachers:
- David Coons - Chemistry, Consumer Math, and Physical Science
- TerraSue Brittel - Earth Science, Pre-Algebra, Biology, and English 8
- Pastor Paul Delashaw - Bible 8
- Dan Davis - All History Classes, Health
- Johnny Rosado - Health and Fitness 8th Grade
- Shiloh Olson - Physics
High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE)
The TRCS 2014 tenth graders recently took the HSPE. These state exams in reading and writing were given to 18 students. In reading, 17/18 students passed. That's 94%! In writing, 15/18 passed which is 83%. Results of biology, algebra, and geometry EOC's will be next September.
Here are some interesting facts concerning our school. During the 2009-2010 school year, TRCS participated in a longitudinal study of our freshmen class. HSLS: 09 is a national study of students and their parents, teachers, school administrators, and school counselors. This study follows students over time to understand what home, school, peer, and community factors influence student learning and development. Students took an online survey and computerized algebra test. There were over 20,000 students in this national study and 944 private schools. When compared to all U.S. schools, our students' math scores were higher (57.20 vs 50). In comparing all private schools, our score was the same, and comparing our students' scores to all city schools, we scored higher again.
Come see us at the high school and please pray for us.
Mr. Lemiere
