Tuition Assistance Fund

This year, we needed to raise $55,000 to fully fund scholarships for our families in need.  We have met our goal with more than two months to spare in the fiscal year!

But we don't want to sit back and relax -- please help us pre-fund the 2014-15 goal.  Make sure to designate TAF 2014-15 on your next donations.  THANK YOU for helping us achieve this goal.  Our TRCS Community is amazing!

Would you consider becoming a regular contributor towards our Tuition Assistance Fund?  You can donate immediately online by clicking here, or you can contact Erin Hart, Development Director, at (360) 423-4510 to sign up for automatic monthly withdrawals.

Your help makes all the difference for families who want a TRCS education for their children.

apple-sm.jpg Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is May 5th through the 9th.  Here's what's happening on the various campuses, and ways that you can help:

Child Development Center:  If you're willing to bake something or donate funds towards celebrating our 43 staff members who care for our youngest children, please contact CDC Mom Erin Hart, or you can leave your donation at the CDC desk.

Elementary School:  Marie Erickson is once again heading up a celebration of the elementary school staff.  Many of you donated at the beginning of the year towards these efforts, but if you'd still like to turn in a donation, you can drop it off at the front desk.  If you'd like to make something or get in on Marie's plans, you can email her.

High School:  Carol Karns will be heading up the effort at the high school campus, and hopes to put together a nice lunch for the teachers that week.  If you have other ideas, or you'd like to help with the costs, donations can be dropped off at the school front desk.

THANK YOU for helping us give extra encouragement and love to the people who give so much to our children!

Jean ZoetQuestions about the 2014-15 School Year

1. Will we have any split grades?  Only for a half day in the afternoon for fourth/fifth. We are committed to have one teacher per grade level for all core subjects, like math and reading. This will give the teacher the opportunity to work directly with each child where they need help.  Mrs. Temples will be the fourth grade teacher and Mrs. Vegh the fifth grade teacher.  What a great opportunity for each class!

2. What happens in the afternoon for those classes?  They will have Mrs. Vegh as the lead teacher but will include computer and other specialist classes that are easier to handle as one group. Mrs. Vegh will teach the science and the social studies.  The fourth grade student will end the day with their homeroom teacher, Mrs. Temples.

3. Will school start at the same time next year?  No, we will be moving our day by fifteen minutes. Start time will be 8:30 and ending time will be 3:00. This makes it less of a wait for families dropping off at the High School and the Elementary.

4. Will the eighth grade still be at the High School in Kelso? Yes, for at least one more year. Our Middle School will include sixth and seventh grade again.  We are planning some fun activities for the students like a spiritual retreat in September and much more. Our plans are to continue the Exploratories Program which has been a wonderful experience.

5. What is the Bridge Kindergarten you have talked about?  We will have one kindergarten class consisting of 15 children which is more traditional in approach and then one kindergarten class which is more of a transitional class that has the same curriculum but is taught in a more active, hands-on manner in a smaller group called the Bridge Kindergarten class.  Mrs. Jessica Carroll will be teaching the Bridge Kindergarten class.

6. Who would attend a Bridge kindergarten class? Parents may choose this class if they notice their child needs to have more breaks, more whole body motion, and a lot of manipulation of larger objects.  We may also suggest that younger children that just turn five use this class but the decision will be a family decision. Only twelve students will be in this class.

If you want more information please call Jean Zoet at the elementary school office or attend the parent meetings which are scheduled for April 24 and May 8.

Debra Zandi Child Development Center

Early Education plays such a vital role in the building blocks of a strong foundation for childhood. We acknowledge that parents are the primary teacher in the life of a child and thus cultivate an effective partnership that supports the growth and development of our students. TRCS is intentional in creating opportunities for parents to come together, families to connect and opportunities to pray.

Teacher Appreciation

We are privileged to have staff dedicated to providing excellence in educational care and development of our students enrolled at Three Rivers Christian.   It is our dedicated staff members that truly make a positive difference in our school! We will be honoring them throughout the week of May 5th -9th in appreciation of their service. Please join as we pray blessings and joy upon them!

Preschool Family Celebration

Children in our Preschool Plus 3's classrooms have been working diligently on music and activities in preparation of honoring their families on May 9th during a Family Celebration event. This program provides an opportunity to gather together and enjoy the gift of children and family!

Preschool teachers have been collecting information and data for their student's portfolios and will be sharing with parents during the Preschool Plus 3's conferences scheduled for the week of May 19th.

Preschool Graduation

What an exciting time of the year for our preschool graduates! Teachers, parents and students are looking forward to this wonderful milestone event which is scheduled for June 6th for our Preschool Plus students and June 11th for our Traditional Preschool class.

CDC Toddler Playground Fencing Project

Toddler playground fencing project has been completed! High School Update

Vanguard University Choir

- March 19th, our middle school and high school students were treated to an excellent concert from the Vanguard University Choir. Alumnus, Brady Backstsrom, was a member of the 65 voice choir. Students were invited to sing praises along with the choir. Many TRCS supporters hosted the college students the night before the concert to help with their expenses. Our students enjoyed the concert so well, that they attended an evening concert at Kelso First Assembly. Only in a Christian school like ours can students experience events like this.

University of Washington Math Day - Mrs. Sande, our Trigonometry teacher, took seven math students to the University of Washington Math Day on March 24th. The students experienced the university campus but most importantly, they were involved with some of the most brilliant mathematical minds at the university. They were among 1300 other top math students from around the state. Here are just some of the classes the students attended. "Infinity and Beyond," a class taught by Dr. Max Lieblech, associate Professor of Mathematics. "Theremin out of 3 AM Radios and Some Trigonometry," taught by Austin Roberts, PhD Student in Mathematics, and my favorite, "A Glimpse Into the Sixth Dimension," taught by Sandor Kavacs, Professor of Mathematics.

National History Day Competition - Mr. Sheppard's history students competed in the NHD competition in Vancouver, Washington. Regional winners go to the state competition May 3rd at Green River Community College in Auburn, Washington. Winners are: Parker Doolin, Natalie Ransom, Heidi Delashaw, Luke Delashaw, Danielle Leslie, Michelle Chen, and Kylee Hoffman.

Trig-Star Competition - Mrs. Sande invited the upper level math students to participate in the Trig-Star Competition. Participants use their Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry skills and figure out higher level problems. Twenty-six students participated! Karsten Rentner was the winner. He goes on to the state competition May 31st.

TRCS Athletic Update

A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns

tim carns
I would like to again say thank you to all of those who gave to help off-set the cost of State basketball. It was a great experience for our student athletes and all who participated. Looking towards next year, there will be numerous things needed for athletics and classrooms. Mr. Lemiere and I are planning on doing an annual fundraiser for the secondary campus that will help off-set the cost of the athletic and academic needs. Our hopes are that all students will be involved in this fundraiser so that the money will help all areas of the school, not just athletics.

Starting in the fall of 2014, the Kelso campus will be changing their fundraising tactics. In an effort to eliminate multiple, small fundraisers, the Kelso campus would like to have every student sell discount cards. The goal is to have each student sell 7 cards at $20 a card. If this goal is reached, the school and athletic department will net $10,000 to go towards the cost of uniforms, equipment, classroom supplies, etc. This fundraiser would start approximately two weeks into the school year.

We are informing families of this fundraiser now because multiple schools in this area sell these cards, and we would like as many families to support our school as possible. We are attempting to find businesses who will donate "buy one, get one free" discounts. As stated before, this fundraiser is in an attempt to eliminate the Go Fourth booth and multiple, smaller fundraisers. Thank you for all of your support in athletics and education.

Thanks -

Tim Carns, TRCS Athletic Director
