EScrip, BoxTops and Soup Labels -- OH MY!
|
With all of the action of a new school year, don't forget a few of the small fundraisers that continue to help at TRCS:
- Box Tops for Education & Campbells Soup Labels... please clip and collect those little rectangular things. We get hundreds of dollars from them each year! They can be turned in at the school front desk. A couple of times a year we do "box tops and soup label drives."
- eScrip: You can register your Safeway cards at www.escrip.com and help TRCS earn extra funds!

Greetings!
Alumni Mitchell Maldonado started attending TRCS as a preschool student and graduated with the class of 2006. After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Contemporary Music from the College of Santa Fe, Mitchell now tours with his band, "The Neverclaim," (currently on the Sony/Provident label) and operates House Below Productions as a Producer/Recording Engineer.
Currently, Mitchell and his Neverclaim bandmates have been traveling quite a bit on tours like The Roadshow (with Skillet, Third Day, Jamie Grace and more) and he's been working on several albums with artists in Nashville and all over the country.
He contributes his skills with keyboards, guitars, banjo and vocals in the group, but his work with Neverclaim is bigger than the music itself. "
The Neverclaim is not just a band, but a ministry," Mitchell explains. "It's a band that is focused on seeing lives changed and hearts coming to Christ. All over the country, time and again we see people being set free of addiction, physical healings, and so many lives won for the Kingdom. All this is not because of us as people, but only that we are willing to be a part of what God is doing. The name "The Neverclaim" means that we never claim to the glory for ourselves, that we give all the glory back to Him. Through our music God is changing lives all over the country."
Mitchell has good memories of his TRCS experience, citing the connections made with his teachers as a favorite. "They genuinely cared about our future and education, and it shows," he says. "Even now, when I see old teachers, they're invested and they ask about what I'm doing and are praying for me and completely supportive of what I've been doing with my life."
He's keeping tabs on the school through his mother (long-time TRCS teacher Cindy Maldonado) and younger sister, Stephanie, who will graduate this year. What does he hope for the TRCS future? Mitchell says: "I'm really excited to see what happens with the sports program! When I was at TRCS we didn't have a sports program and to see it expand from barely having enough kids to form a team, to the basketball team taking 4th in state is amazing! It'll be exciting to see what unfolds and what new sports the school starts expanding into!"
Thanks for the update, Mitchell. Check out The Neverclaim online to see them at their next performance!

Re-enrollment Now Open!
It is Re-enrollment at TRCS time. What does that mean? Why do this early?
As the Administrator of Three Rivers, I have the opportunity to see the teachers and students in action. We have great, caring staff that are able to teach in small classrooms in a loving, Christ-centered way. The training they do with these children is amazing. Our students get the listening ear of their teacher. Our students have adults praying for them daily. Our students also make great strides in academic areas each year. This is a great place.
We have attempted to set goals each year to continue the process of improving our site and our program. We have painted and patched, purchased new play toys and even a new fence for the toddler play area. Our classrooms have had some new carpets, new heating units and new pieces of technology. Our program has grown as we use that technology, set up new TVs in the classroom and add classes like Spanish, Exploratories, and Music venues. We aren't done but are delighted when we connect with children and their interest areas. Our chess club is a booming success provided by volunteers and teachers.
We qualified for Title I money this year and hired Mrs. Palmer to help students before and after school. These are children that need re-teaching or extra practice of skills in reading and math. This provides more classroom time for teachers to expand their lessons. Our next goal will be to find ways to expand our program for the exceptional child through academic challenges and areas of interest.
Our Tuition Assistance has grown. When a family needs help, sends in a request for assistance, it is evaluated by an outside organization and we are given a recommendation for help . We were able to meet most of the needs this year from outside sources. This does not come out of our budget as many schools do!
Take the time now to re-enroll and invite a family you know to enroll. This is a great place.

Child Development Center
Our Child Development Center is committed to demonstrate a relationship with God in the way we interact with our children and families. It is our goal to continue to build upon our existing Early Childhood Education programs, which in turn offers not only professional development for staff, but a focused building system for young children of community families.
We, as a staff at Three Rivers Christian, focus on benefits of staff enrichment workshops and trainings while at the same time, implementing and launching a strong momentum in partnership between our kindergarten and preschool teachers.
Current Priority Strategies include:
- Reading loft for Literacy Library
- Kindergarten readiness assessment
- Strengthening of a parent resource connection for Christian Early Education
- Professional development
Our Festival of Learning is a perfect time to observe group activities and explore classroom environments. It also provides opportunity for teachers to begin the important partnership of sharing information and curriculum with families. We encourage you to come, invite a friend or family member and join us on March 27th at 6:30-8:00 for Three Rivers Christian School Festival of Learning Night!
Building the FOUNDATION for a lifetime of LEARNING...

High School Update
TRCS Cheerleaders were awarded the 1B WIAA Academic State Championship Award at the Spokane Arena during the 1B State Basketball Championships. Our very bright and talented cheer squad averaged a 3.87 G.P.A. The Cheerleaders performed exciting routines and cheers at State. They "Brought Down the House," at each half-time. Coach Tasha Settle-Iwanick and the girls had an outstanding season as well!
TRCS Boys' Basketball Team - March 6, 7, and 8 our boys' basketball team played in the Spokane Arena and came home with a 4th place in the WIAA 1B State Basketball Tournament! This was the highest place ever from a 1B team in District IV (Southwest Washington). Coach James Murphy, Daryl Murphy, and Johnny Rosado prepared our boys very well. Our Athletic Director, Tim Carns did a masterful job leading the well-organized trip to State. Special thanks goes to Jed Schroeder for taking 4 days to drive our students in our new bus over 700 safe miles.
Thank You - One big Thank You goes to all of the generous donors to our school. The Regional and State basketball trips were quite expensive but because of God's prompting, both trips were paid in full. Thank you again for everyone's prayers and support.
HSPE tests - Tenth grade students will take the High School Proficiency Exams March 18-20. Students are tested on reading and writing skills. Results arrive in the summer.
