Tuition Assistance Fund

This year, we need to raise $55,000 to fully fund scholarships for our families in need.  We have currently raised just over $30,000.

Would you consider becoming a regular contributor towards our Tuition Assistance Fund?  You can donate immediately online by clicking here, or you can contact Erin Hart, Development Director, at (360) 423-4510 to sign up for automatic monthly withdrawals.

Your help makes all the difference for families who want a TRCS education for their children.

EScrip, BoxTops and Soup Labels -- OH MY!

With all of the action of a new school year, don't forget a few of the small fundraisers that continue to help at TRCS:

  • Box Tops for Education & Campbells Soup Labels... please clip and collect those little rectangular things.  We get hundreds of dollars from them each year!  They can be turned in at the school front desk.  A couple of times a year we do "box tops and soup label drives."
  • eScrip:  You can register your Safeway cards at www.escrip.com and help TRCS earn extra funds!

This month's alumni profile, Shelby Mace, is hard at work in the missions field with YWAM:

TRCS Alumni:  Meet Shelby Mace

As a 2012 TRCS graduate, Shelby Mace wasted no time in heading towards what she believes God has called her to do.  Directly after graduation, Shelby joined "Youth With a Mission" (University of the Nations) to become an urban missionary.

"I'm currently stationed in New York city, working to spread the gospel among the immigrant population," she says.  "I meet immigrants, build friendships, work near the downtown brothels focusing on the non-American girls being victimized as human slaves."  Since 82% of New York city residents are foreign-born, she's found a rich ground for what YWAM terms "street ministry":  they occupy "prayer stations" on the street, worship on corners, assist in homeless shelter outreaches, and disaster relief (especially after Superstorm Sandy).

Shelby attended TRCS from Preschool through 12th grade and feels that the tools she received there have been a huge asset to her mission field.    "My favorite classes would have to be Mrs. Palmer's math classes in elementary school or Mr. Stiltz's high school Spanish classes.  I also loved chapel at both campuses."

Shelby recently came to deliver a chapel message at the elementary campus, which felt like coming full-circle for her.  "Ten years ago as a small child, I sat in chapel at my school listening to the testimony of a missionary," she says.  "She had set out to change the world for Jesus. Feeling very convicted, that woman planted a seed in my little and very young heart."  Having also traveled to China on missions, Shelby is now signing up for another 2 years in New York.  She's going to pursue further college education, but with the end goal being a continuation of her work in the mission field, spreading the gospel in places where the Message is not yet heard.

Thank you, Shelby, for sharing with us, and may God bless you and your ministry!  If you'd like to help support Shelby on her YWAM mission, please email her here and request more information, or to be added to her newsletter list.

Jean ZoetExciting Technology Developments

This fall, TRCS hired Lars Pedersen to begin working on our computer systems at both campuses, looking at hardware and software. He has completed the laptops which were provided through our grant from the Department of Defense. They are now in the hands of our teachers. Also completed are the following: mapping of wires and connections, changing routers for efficiency and an upgrade of our wireless system, hooking up printers so that all staff can print from their laptops and get online from any place on campus, defragmenting all office and bookkeeping computers, hooking up a scanner for Brenda LeMonds,

A generous donor gave 2 new iPads to the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms.  What a great tool for learning!

repairing systems still under warranty, installation of a switch, servicing all computers on site, repair of two older but serviceable computers and much more. Our goal is to know what we have, maintain what we have and work toward minimal maintenance in the future. I am confident that the time we spend now will save time later. Following this general clean up and organization we will develop a plan for continued vision for better programs.

Joan Rabideau, our new technology/journalism instructor, is providing excellent classroom education for our students. Grades first through fifth are following the technology education plan provided by the state of Washington. Our curriculum includes instruction on personal safety, computer safety, computer knowledge and software knowledge. The computer is also seen as a tool to use within the classroom to research and for drill and practice. Both first and second grade are using the iPad gifts they received as a tool to reinforce the curriculum within the core academic areas. Grades three through five are learning keyboarding, tracking their progress and learning about the need for computers. Grades six and seven are using the computer as a tool for the subject areas they are taking. Specialty classes in "calendar making" and "use of the timeline in reporting" provide some added training.

High School Update

Barton Tutoring

Does your son or daughter need extra help with reading and spelling?  TRCS has an extra program called the Barton Reading and Spelling System.  It is a system specifically for students with Dyslexia and students who really struggle in the areas of reading and spelling.  Teri Horness, one of our high school parents, is skilled in the Barton system and has offered her services.  The cost would be $20.00 per session. Please call the high school office for more details. (360-636-1600)

National Honor Society

Thirteen students were inducted to the National Honor Society October 7, 2013. Mrs. Portwood is their advisor. Their names are: Anna Claunch, Erika Dailey, Alicia Hillger, Ian Hoffman, Eric Horness, Kylie Kirby, Elizabeth McCarthy, Kessa Portwood, Lara Purvis, Mackenzie Schmutz, Xirui Song, Haley Walker, and Kaylee Welsh.

The Portland Trail Blazers would like to welcome Three Rivers Christian School students, faculty, family and friends on January 2nd, 2014, for an evening of high-flying basketball action when the Trail Blazers battle the Charlotte Bobcats this January.  Clear your calendar and spend the afternoon at the Moda Center when Three Rivers Christian School takes the court against Napavine High School!

A portion of each ticket purchased will go back to Three Rivers Christian as a fundraiser!

Your ticket for that night's Trail Blazers game will be your ticket to the afternoon high school game as well.
