EScrip, BoxTops and Soup Labels -- OH MY!

With all of the action of a new school year, don't forget a few of the small fundraisers that continue to help at TRCS:

  • Box Tops for Education & Campbells Soup Labels... please clip and collect those little rectangular things.  We get hundreds of dollars from them each year!  They can be turned in at the school front desk.  A couple of times a year we do "box tops and soup label drives."
  • eScrip:  You can register your Safeway cards at www.escrip.com and help TRCS earn extra funds!

Washington State National History Day Teacher of the Year!

Jim-Sheppard The Colonial Dames of Washington, along with the Washington State Historical Society, named Jim Sheppard, our high school history teacher, Washington State National History Day Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Sheppard receives an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. June 7-13.  This award recognizes a teacher that goes over and above what is expected and actively contributes to the National History Day experience in their school and throughout their careers. Congratulations Mr. Sheppard!

Summer Improvements!

With summer coming, we're putting together our list of things we'd like to accomplish for next school year.  Some we have covered, and a few will take some good volunteers and/or donations.  Please let us know if you'd be willing to help with any of these items.  Our maintenance staff has a full job just doing the regular maintenance, so we need the extra help to move forward!

  • New carpets for classrooms:  We will be selling parking AND having a rummage sale on August 3rd to benefit our new carpet fund for some of our more desperate classrooms.  If you have items to donate, or would like to volunteer on this day, please contact the elementary office at (360) 423-4510.
  • Playground upgrades:  We have two Eagle Scout volunteers who will be helping by painting our metal equipment AND repainting the parking lot mural of the United States.  What a blessing!  Student Council has allocated funds for this, and we also have finally allocated sufficient funds to get a new piece of playground equipment to replace the wood structure!  We need help with removing the wood structure, as well as installing the new equipment.
  • Siding north of Room 5:  We have some issues with the north side of our Building "A" (right outside of Room 5) where the siding needs to be replaced and is rotting.  We don't have money in our budget to make these repairs, but they are desperately needed.  If you know of someone with construction skills who could make this happen, we would be so grateful!
If you're not able to volunteer but would like to donate, you can do it quickly and easily by clicking here.  Thank you for helping to improve our school community!

Fundraising Opportunities!

 coupon-book

Burger King Coupon Books

We have a new crop of Burger King Fundraiser books available in the school offices for only $5 -- and these don't expire until December of 2013, so make sure to pick up a few for those nights when you don't feel like cooking!  They contain more than $40 worth of coupons (including multiple free meals).  All proceeds from this go toward new playground equipment.

Elementary Student Council Store

The Elementary Student Council has picked some fun items to sell in their "student store."  From school logo pencils to "gripulls" (fancy pencil grips), they have a selection of items to help them fundraise for their special projects.  Store sessions are on FRIDAYS at lunchtime, so please send you child with a couple of dollars that day so they can purchase something new and fun while supporting the council projects!

Debra ZandiChild Development Center Update
Building a Foundation for a Lifetime of Learning

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my Mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; I know this full well."

 Psalm 139:13, 14

Children are learning even before birth.  The early years are the most extraordinary period of growth and development in the lifetime of a child and we have been blessed with the wonderful children currently enrolled in our Center.  I marvel at God's creation as we acknowledge the rapid and crucial development of the brain in the first year of life and acknowledge that nurturing the whole child from birth begins building a strong Foundation of a Lifetime of Learning.

It is with honor that I acknowledge my Administrative team members JoAnne Dodge, Vicki Fortner, Linda Mills, Sue Siegel, Cindy Siegel and Brenda LeMonds for their outstanding work efforts.  Your dedication to our ministry is a blessing to us all!

We have a wonderful, dedicated staff of 40 members that brings their own unique, God given strengths, talents and interests to the students of their classrooms.  They provide an environment which cultivates rich relationships and allows children to become secure, confident learners in Christ.  It is with great appreciation that I thank each of them for a job well done!

This is a very exciting time for our four year old preschool students and families as they move forward celebrating the milestone of graduation into kindergarten. It is that precious time to recognize and celebrate with each child what the Lord has done and a time to rejoice with families.  Preschool Plus graduation is June 7th and Traditional Preschool is June 10th.

Our teachers provide a learning environment rich in curriculum that affirms and supports the development and discovery for every child.  Core integrated curriculums include: WEE Learn, Making a Difference, Core Concepts of Early Literacy and Exploring God's World.  The Washington State Early Learning and Development Manual is an essential resource that is used by teaching staff to provide tools and strategies for children Birth through 3rd grade.

We are looking forward to our summer program and eagerly preparing for "TRCS Camp 2013!"   We have 10 weeks to enjoy camp activities filled with exciting adventure, exploration and discovery!

It is this time of the year that I become ever so aware of the many extraordinary people that make up our ministry and I am thankful for each and every one.  May I take this opportunity to thank each of you for your continued support, prayers and gracious sharing to TRCS. You make the positive difference!

High School Update

Here at the high school, we've had wonderful blessings. Three high school students, Ashtyn Grant, Kiley Kirbey, and Danielle Leslie participated in the Happy Kids Dental Art Contest.  Their painting won the school $1000!  Way to go artists!

The Colonial Dames of Washington, along with the Washington State Historical Society, named Jim Sheppard, our high school history teacher, Washington State National History Day Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Sheppard receives an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. TRCS Athletic Update

A Message from Athletic Director, Tim Carns

tim carns
My first year as A.D. @ TRCS has been a year of learning. I would like to thank all of you for your support, patience, and prayers. I believe it is important for families to be as much informed about athletics as possible. By being transparent and communicating the "who, what and whys" of our program, trust and understanding are built.

Valid questions arise as to why we need fundraisers. Where does the money go? How come the school does not provide transportation to all games? Why do we need so many volunteers? Why are practice times so late? Why do schedules keep changing? These are all important questions and my goal is to keep you as informed as possible.

The challenge at a school is discovering what methods of communication work best. In moving forward to the 2013-2014 school year my goals are to keep the TRCS athletic website up to date with general information, and use email " BLASTS" to communicate daily information. If you are reading this letter, it has been sent to you via email blast. The "BLASTS" seem to work best for families as long as they check email daily.

Enclosed in this email is the athletic budget/goals for 2013-14 school year, a  sign up sheet for the  at Lake Sacajawea (July 2nd, 3rd & 4th - please email me and reserve your fun time at the Lake early!) and an athletic promotional handout.

I hope all of this gives you a clearer understanding of TRCS athletics. I am always open to new ideas and new ways of fund-raising. If you believe you can help strengthen TRCS athletics in any avenue please feel free to contact me.
