CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

STORY ART

Monday, August 4 at 10:30 am 

Art and stories come together and children leave with an art project to take home. For ages 3-5 years. Co-sponsored by Aspen Art Museum. 


SPACE ALIEN'S BIG BANG MAGIC SHOW
Tuesday, August 5 at 1 pm
Ann Lincoln is back with a "big bang" and lots of new magic tricks! For children going into grades 1-4.

BOOK BUCKS PARTY!
Wednesday, August 6 at 5:30 pm

You've been reading all summer and you deserve a party to celebrate! For children going into grades 1 through 8. Get your book bucks before 5 pm on Wednesday August 6 and then redeem them at the party for prizes! 

 

TUNES & TALES

Thursday, August 7 from 10:30 to 11 am 

Presented in conjunction with the Aspen Associates of Aspen, this entertaining half-hour of story-telling is accompanied by the sounds and songs of live music. For children ages 3-7 years.

 

EVELYN R FLUG CHILDREN'S LIBRARY BIRTHDAY PARTY

Thursday, August 7 at 11 am

Following Tunes & Tales, we'll be serving birthday cake to celebrate the "birthday" of the children's library and honor Mrs. Flug for whom it's named. For children ages 3- 7.


 

STORYWALK MORNING

Friday, August 8 at 11 am 

Meet in the children's room and we'll walk to the Hunter Creek trail extension as a group. Children's librarian Anne will lead the group in reading and doing the activities in Sheep Take a Hike. Treats at book's end. All ages and strollers are welcome. Approximately one hour.

TEENS AND SUMMER 
High School Mad Scientist Party: After Hours at the Library
Saturday, August 2 at 6 pm.
Celebrate the end of summer with games, food, and our grand prize giveaways. A signed permission slip required. Pick one up at the circ desk.
Regular Wednesday programs will return in September. 


ADULT PROGRAMS
 

MOODS, EMOTIONS AND AGING
The link between hormones, mood, emotions, and overall well-being is a powerful one. Phyllis Bronson PhD and Chris Martinez MD will present information on hormones, the mind-body connection, and how women can take steps to bring themselves into better balance physically and emotionally. Tuesday, August 12 at 2 pm. 



OPERA APPRECIATION
The Magic Flute 3-part lecture series continues! On Monday, August 4 at 3 pm,
Saul Lowitt will show and discuss Ingmar Bergman's 1975 film version of Mozart's opera. On Monday, August 11 at 3 pm, he will wrap up the series by showing a performance directed by August Everding, a past director of Aspen Music Festival operas. 

On Thursday, August 7 at 3 pm, Phyllis Lowitt, M.M., will provide a multimedia overview of Bizet's charming and sassy opera, Carmen.


FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING
Join Nathalie Crick for French Chat on Mondays at noon and Lillian Scott for Spanish Chat on Tuesdays at noon. These informal chat sessions are open to all levels of learners. Brown bag optional. 
 

LITERATURE

Everyone is welcome to join our book clubs. The Nonfiction Book Club meets on the second Saturday of the month at 4:15 pm and is led by Drew Brookhart. The Train Dreams fiction group meets on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm and is led by Martha Durgy. Books for both groups are available through the library for free on a first come first serve basis.

 

Literature Out Loud is our popular "story time for grownups." Dramatic readings by local theater and radio personalities and other local talent makes for an entertaining hour. On Sunday, August 17th at 2 pm the theme is "Deep Freeze." Wendy Perkins and Mike Monoroney will give us the chills with cold, cold words from Joe Henry, Gretel Erlich, and Marcel Theroux. Sponsored by Friends of the Library.
