Ongoing Support Groups
Caring for Older Adults
Thursday, May 2, 7:30pm, CR
Miriam Baker and Deborah Blumberg-facilitators
Many people are juggling jobs, families and their parents' or other family members' increasing medical needs, frequent emergencies and ongoing need for care. How do we cope with the needs of our loved ones and find some balance in our own lives? What do we need to learn as we take on this task? How do we find information and community? If you find yourself in this position, you are welcome at this group for discussion and support. |
Living with Serious Illness Support Group
Thursday, May 9, 7pm, Library
Nanny Almquist and Kathy Lind-facilitators
In our ever-changing lives, we sometimes need a place to talk when we are faced with news or are coping with an ongoing medical condition for either ourselves or someone close to us. This group meets monthly to provide that safe space. If you are interested but are unable to attend, please contact Kathy Lind at klind@uubelmont.org. |

Reflections from Rev. David Bryce, Senior Minister
Some Happy News
April 23, 2013
On the Monday following a difficult week, I thought it would be good to share some happy news.
A person who is on the path to Unitarian Universalist ministry has a number of requirements to meet. These include having a congregation provide its sponsorship of their journey. As the UUA says on its web site: "The purpose of this requirement is to ensure familiarity on the part of new ministers with UU congregational life, and encourage congregations to take a responsible role in the recruitment, preparation and assessment of our future ministers."
Sponsorship only means that the congregation sees in the person the potential to be a good minister. As the UUA web site goes on to say: "At the most basic level, congregational sponsorship indicates confidence in the person's potential and suitability for UU ministry...By sponsoring someone, you are not indicating that the person is presently ready for ministry; you are saying that with further education he or she has a good chance of developing the traits necessary for successful ministry."
As you know, Sarah Gillespie has been our student minister this year. After some careful thought she made the decision to request that we, FCB, be her sponsoring congregation.
At its last meeting, the Parish Board voted to sponsor Sarah. Congratulation to Sarah and to us. (Sarah now becomes the second person that we sponsor.) |
