Tips for Selling Annuities
Closing the Sale 
Even the simple act of clarifying how the annuity works and what the investor will be receiving can be tricky, especially when riders are involved.
- Know your customer. Look at their entire investment portfolio before attempting to sell any annuity and make sure you match the product to the owner.
- Educate your prospect. Educate on what annuities can and cannot do for the prospect, but keep the lessons simple. Too many numbers, charts, and graphs might leave your prospect overwhelmed and unable to decide.
- Understand riders. Make sure that you understand all of the nuances of a rider before attempting to sell one to your client.
- Maintain contact. Stay in touch with your clients as they go through different life stages and look out for opportunities to present additional annuities to suit their income needs.
- Stay abreast of what is happening in the news. This will let you stay up-to-date on any tax-reform initiatives that might affect some of the financial products you are selling.
- Make sure you own some annuities yourself.
