We just bought an extraordinary collection of 10,000 to 15,000 vinyl records (45s) and are giving our newsletter subscribers and Facebook followers the first chance to buy the collection. Serious buyers interested in buying the entire collection can contact Chris to set an appointment to view the records.
The records are the collection of a Virginia man who spent more than 50 years building his record library. He moonlighted as a private party DJ for decades. Almost all of these records that we've played so far easily meet the Goldmine Standard Catalog of American Records grade of Very Good, though we think you'll find most of them play better than that (Very Good Plus, etc.). The records actually play very nicely, maintain excellent luster and contain about the aesthetic blemishes you'd expect in a collection of mostly older records. Many records contain their original picture sleeves.
We're breaking the collection into two groups:
1. Country
2. Rock/pop/soul/R&B
Group 1, the country records, are completely ready for sale. We estimate that there has to be at least 2,500 in that group. Might be 3,000. We will include a box of Elvis records even though most of them are not country. The price for this group is $2,250.
Artists in the first batch we've brought include older country records from the 1950s through modern stuff. This batch also includes a little bit of older pop and rock and some artists straddle the line and some just got mixed up in the group.
Artists names range from A-Z and almost all of them are already in boxes, ordered alphabetically. A very small sampling of these artists include: Eddy Arnold, Harry Belafonte, Pat Boone, Sawyer Brown, Jimmy Buffet, Johnny Cash, Dave Clark Five, Patsy Cline, Perry Como, Dick Contino, Ballad of Davy Crockett, Billy Ray Cyrus, Doris Day, Elvis, Jimmy Dean, Rosie Flores, Forester Sisters, Crystal Gale, Lee Greenwood, Homer and Jethro, Merle Haggard, Johnny Horton, Sonny James, Waylon Jennings, Kitty Kallen, Frankie Laine, Brenda Lee, Peggy Lee, Barbara Mandrell, Ann Margret, Reba McEntire, Michael Martin Murphy, Rick Nelson, Willie Nelson, Juice Newton, Oak Ridge Boys, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Carl Perkins, Webb Pierce, Quarterflash, Restless Heart, Eddie Rabbitt, Reno and Smiley, Jim Reeves, Kenny Rogers, Linda Ronstadt, Ssgt. Barry Sadler, Carl Smith, George Straight, Johnny Tillotson, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Conway Twitty, Steve Wariner, Hugo Winterhalter, Hank Williams Sr., and Hank Williams Jr.
Group 2, the rock/pop/soul/R&B records. We haven't finished going through this incredible group of 10,000 or more records. We're asking $7,450 for this group. We're also open to offers on breaking this group into batches smaller than the 10,000 or so group. Maybe you want to build a theme around 500 or 1,000 records. We'll listen.
These records also run from the 1950s through modern records. To name only a few artists here, we're talking Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rolling Stones, Roy Orbison and a ton more. They are organized in two ways. Most records are in boxes labeled by the year the record came out. Other boxes are grouped by artist. Most of both are already in alphabetical order.
If we don't sell the two groups as collections, we may bring them to an upcoming estate sale, outdoor market or one of our stores. Stay tuned here for details.
