Todd Jordan
Greetings:

There's nothing quite like the aroma of fresh baked bread, except perhaps sinking one's teeth into a warm, buttery slice. Yet, no sooner are we finished with one piece and we're on to the next. Isn't it funny how even the most satisfying things in life never last? In fact, is there even such a thing as everlasting satisfaction? Moreover, would we recognize it if we had it? Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry." God knows what we need for lasting satisfaction, which should not be confused with mere happiness, or fullness. But where and how do we find this truly satisfying "bread of life" and how will we know when we do? Join me this Sunday as we will explore together the meaning of this quizzical "I AM" statement from Jesus found in John 6. I look forward to seeing you!

Mission Milby

The Mission Milby Community Development Corporation (MMCDC) aims to "significantly reduce poverty in Houston's

Pecan Park and surrounding East End neighborhoods by revitalizing the community while preserving its heritage and honoring its culture and character." In collaboration with

community stakeholders and other Houston-area partners (such as Strawbridge), MMCDC is working to improve residents' quality of life "so that all may experience God's grace and blessing through established and sustainable measures such as love, trust, acceptance, education, employment, safety, and health." In addition to financial support, SUMC also pursues hands-on opportunities to further MMCDC's mission ministry.

New Directions Class Study "Respectable sins "

Have Christians become so preoccupied with "major" sins that we have lost sight of our need to deal with more subtle sins? Navigator author Jerry Bridges addresses the "acceptable" sins that we tend to tolerate in ourselves, including pride and anger. He goes to the heart of the matter, exploring our feelings of shame and grief and opening a new door to God's forgiveness and grace. Travel down the road of spiritual formation with Jerry and discover your true identity as a loved child of God."   Come join us in Room 207.
