Todd Jordan
Greetings:

In the first two chapters of the Book of Ruth, Naomi faces famine, the death of her husband, and the death of her two sons. She is left destitute and quite bitter. Her only immediate family are her two Moabite daughters-in-law, one of whom leaves her to return to her family. The other one, Ruth, for no good reason, pledges loyalty to Naomi and returns with her to Bethlehem. Why would Ruth do such a thing, and what does she teach us about God's hesed, or steadfast love in the face of our own struggles and circumstances? Join me this Sunday as I flesh out part one of the Book of Ruth, and try to make relevant the lessons of this ancient story of unexplainable love and redemption.

                       Dr. Todd Jordan,

                       Senior Pastor

BLOOD DRIVE

INFORMATION

For many years, we have hosted three blood drives per year.  These have typically been scheduled in April, August and December.  The Blood Center started their "Commit for Life" program some years ago and they encourage donors to "Commit for Life" by donating blood four times per year.  Besides making a life-saving difference in as many as three lives for each donation, there are other rewards and incentives for "Commit for Life" donors.

This year, in order to make it easier for our members to "Commit for Life", the Blood Center is asking us to start hosting four blood drives per year.  The dates selected for 2015 are March 15th, July 26th, October 4th, and December 6th.  We'll be recruiting donors in the Activities Corridor on the two Sundays prior to each of these dates.

Please put these dates on your calendar and be ready to step up and help us make a life-saving difference in our local area.  Please contact Skip Richardson  (281-360-1164) if you have any questions or need further information."

New Directions Class Study "Respectable sins "

Have Christians become so preoccupied with "major" sins that we have lost sight of our need to deal with more subtle sins? Navigator author Jerry Bridges addresses the "acceptable" sins that we tend to tolerate in ourselves, including pride and anger. He goes to the heart of the matter, exploring our feelings of shame and grief and opening a new door to God's forgiveness and grace. Travel down the road of spiritual formation with Jerry and discover your true identity as a loved child of God."   Come join us in Room 207.

Come Try Us Out!

Do you like to sing? Has anyone ever told you, "Hey! You should be singing in the choir!"

This is the time to try us out! We are starting our Lenten and Easter music. We would love for you to join us at rehearsal on Wednesday nights 7:00 to 8:30pm in the choir room next to the Sanctuary.

Frequently Given Excuses (FGE's):

#1: I travel and can't commit to every week rehearsals

Answer: That's okay! We work music several weeks in advance so you will have plenty of time to learn

the music.

#2: I have little ones and my spouse works nights.

Answer: That's okay! We provide free childcare at the church.

#3: I love to sing but can't read music.

Answer: That's okay! Come and try it. We will help you learn how to read music.

ALL ARE WELCOME!! If you have any questions, please email Rev. Laurie Purcell,

Minister of Music, at laurie.purcell@strawbridge-umc.org.

Please note that rehearsal time for Ash Wednesday will be at 6:15 p.m
