What's Up With Double Ewe?

I knew I'd been a bit behind in writing you, but I didn't  know just how far behind I was until I sat down to write this newsletter.  I haven't written since January!  I totally missed February.  Wow.   Let's get up to date, ok? I've got a couple of upcoming classes to share with you, and then I'll show you some of the things we've been knitting, some new yarns, stuff like that.  Read on!

Upcoming Classes

Please see our current class schedule for complete details.

Let's Knit Again!
This is a great next-steps class.  Do you know how to knit and purl, and you're ready to
move beyond rectangles and squares?  Then this is the class for you.  In this class, you'll be knitting a Ribby-Ridgy Hat and Ribby-Ridgy Fingerless Mitts.  Both are super cute, but more importantly, you'll be learning the difference between knitting flat and "in the round", you'll be  knitting in the round on circular and double pointed needles, you'll be doing ribbing, purl ridges, decreasing, all while learning to read  a pattern.  This class will open up so many possibilities for future projects!
When:
Tuesdays, March 8 - 15
Time:  6:30 - 8:30
Cost:  $20 plus materials
Materials:  Approximately 250 yards worsted weight yarn, size 8 16" circular needle, size 8 Double Pointed Needles, stitch marker, yarn needle
Instructor: Diane Augustin

Babies & Bears for Grown-Ups

This really fun to make and wear cardigan begins at the left wrist and is worked to the center using both Garter and Stockinette stitch and a large mitered square.  It may be made all in one color, it could include just a bit of contract color in the border (see pictures in the pattern), or stripes may be added like those on the sample sweater in the shop.  Nancy will guide you through the whole process, helping with any areas that may be new to you.
When:
  Tuesdays, March 22, 29, April 12 & 19
Time: 10:00 am - noon
Cost:  $40 plus materials
Materials: Pattern, yarn and needles - details to come.
Instructor:  Nancy McElmurry

Another new-to-Double-Ewe yarn today:  Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK from Sublime.  It's a beautiful, luxurious yarn for a special baby, but it also makes gorgeous grown-up items as well.  I've made a Bundle of ideas for you.

A super fun package arrived today:  A trunk show from Ewe Ewe Yarns!  We've got 13 items for you to touch and feel:  shawls, mitts, cowls, for babies to adults.  Ewe Ewe has two yarns:  Wooly Worsted and Ewe So Sporty.  Both are superwash  merino wool, and both are bouncy with great stitch definition - real treats to knit with!

I'll let Heather tell you more about herself and her company:  Ewe Ewe Yarns
And I put all the patterns for the samples she sent us in a bundle.  Check them out here:  Ravelry Bundle

New for spring:  Nettle Grove is a blend of cotton, linen, nettle and silk.  It knits up into a lightweight, breathable, soft fabric perfect for warm weather tops, shawls, scarves, and such.  This scarf knit up really quickly, and it uses four colors, but is also lovely in just one.

The pattern is a freebie from Plymouth yarn:  Striped Diagonal Scarf

Our Judy loves scarves.  I pried this one off her neck to show you just how gorgeous the colors of our British Blue Wool can be.  (Ok, ok, I didn't pry, she offered it to me.)

Blue Faced Leicester (soft, sheeny, very British wool) in little 25 gram balls, sixteen shades to choose from, perfect for playing with color.  Judy chose 5 colors and followed the One by One, Two by Two pattern, a freebie from our friends at Churchmouse.  I think you could choose your colors with your eyes closed and still come out a winner.

As usual, if you'd like more inspiration, I've made another Ravelry Bundle.
Here's the scoop on the pattern:  One by One, Two by Two
