News from Double Ewe
October 13, 2015
Yikes  !  Have you looked at the calendar?!  It's mid-October already!

Today's newsletter is going to be short and sweet.  We've got lots of new yarn in the shop, but I think I'll need to tell you about it at a later date.  Today I  mostly want to tell you about some classes that are coming up pretty quickly.
Classes
We've got some fun things coming up this fall.  For a printable copy, please see the schedule here on our website, or stop by the shop for a copy.  Here's what we've got coming up.

New:  Classes marked with an asterisk (*) are great "next step" classes for less experienced knitters & crocheters.  You need to know the basic stitches, but we'll take it from there!

--------------------

The Gatsby Necklace This is a beautiful 1920's inspired necklace knit with a fingering weight cotton yarn and beads.  What an awesome gift idea!
When:  Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 9:00
Date:  October 20
Cost:  $ 13
Materials:  Kits will be available or $20, and you'll also need size 3 straight needles with sharp tips.  We recommend Knitter's Pride Nova needles.
Craft:  Knit
Instructor:  Diane Augustin

Rainchaser Hat or Cowl
Who knew slipped stitches could look so cool?  This is a mosaic pattern, where only one color is worked on any given round, and it gives an illusion of stranded knitting.  Three colors are used, and you can make it as subtle or as colorful as you like.  Great fun!  Our sample was made with All American Sport from Swans Island, but we have many other lovely choices.
When:  Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:00
Dates:  October 22 - 29 (2 weeks)
Cost:  $10 plus materials
Materials:  300 - 450 yards sport weight yarn in 3 colors;  needles size 3 & 5 16", DPNs size 5;  Pattern $5 Ravelry in-store download.
Craft:  Knit
Instructor:  Kelly Judson

A Merry Meander
This shallow crescent shaped shawl is worked from one end to the other.  The shawl begins fairly narrow.  The crescent shape is created by increases for the first half, followed by a section without shaping, and then decreases for the second half.  It includes an eyelet border along the top, and a plain section where shaping takes place, a lace insert and a lace edging.  The insert pattern can be a reminder of a pleasant walk along a stream on a beach, or through the forest floor.  The shawl uses just one 400 yard skein of fingering weight yarn.  The sample was made with Sun Valley Fibers.
When:  Tuesday morning, 10:00 - 12:00
Date:  November 17 (1 week)
Cost:  $13 plus materials
Materials: 400 yards fingering weight yarn.  Pattern is included with class.
Craft:  Knit
Instructor:  Nancy McElmurry

*Super Bulky Moebius Cowl
Knit this super soft and warm super bulky cowl in just a few hours.  You'll be using the knit below technique to make a cushy brioche fabric - these are great for quick gifts!  We've got some great hand-dyed choices as well as some lovely easy-care blends.  Lots of choices!
When:  Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 8:30
Date:  November 17 (1 week)
Cost:  $13 plus materials
Materials: approximately 90 yards of super bulky yarn; needles size 17.  Pattern included with class.
Craft:  Knitting
Instructor:  Diane Augustin

1.2.3. Stackers!
How about these joyful bracelets and necklaces?  It's quick and easy as 1. 2. 3.!  Make bracelets to fit anyone.  Make necklaces by adding more beads and crocheting a longer chain.  Have endless fun creating color combinations.  Crochet and add Stackers to any outfit to pull together your whole look. There are so many possibilities!  We're offering this as a free class when you purchase a kit, sort of a kick-off to the holiday season.  Seating is limited, so give us a call if you'd like to sign up!

When:  Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 8:30
Date:  November 24 (1 week)
Cost:  Class is free with materials
Materials:  Kits are $15.  Crochet hook size E.
Craft:  Crochet (chain)
Instructor:  Diane Augustin

*Everybody's Poncho  The funny thing about this poncho is that, so far, it fits everybody who tries it on, so it seems like a good idea to call it Everybody's Poncho.  It's an easy, circular knit that slips over your head and gently drapes over your shoulders in a lightweight hug.  Our sample was knit with Chalet from Classic Elite, but we've got other choices as well.
When:  Tuesday evening, 6:30 - 8:30
Date:  December 1 (1 week)
Cost:  $13 plus materials
Materials:  340 yards bulky yarn, such as Chalet, size 11 24" circular needle; pattern is in included with the class.
Craft:  Knit
Instructor:  Diane Augustin

Knitting with Nancy Lindberg
Nancy's next session starts October 29th.  Nancy's patterns have been sold in yarn shops throughout the country for  many years, and we're fortunate to have her teach a weekly class at Double Ewe!

-------------------

*Kelly's Workshop
This is an ongoing class; jump in whenever you want!  You pick the project, we provide the support.  Even if you've never knit before, we can teach you!  Mittens? Socks?  Lace?  A sweater?  Learn how to fix those pesky mistakes or how to seam nicely.  Knit what YOU want, but if you get stuck, don't worry, we can guide you along the way.  This is a great option if you want to take a class with a friend, but you knit at different levels.  Come to just one class or come every week - your choice.    Wednesday afternoons 4 - 6, or Thursday mornings 10 - 12.  Just $5 per class.

--------------------

To register for classes, stop in, send an email to kelly@double-ewe-yarn.com, or give us a call at 763-795-9276.   Payment in full guarantees your spot in the class.  If you need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible in case there's a waiting list.  If you notify us at least 24 hours before the class starts, your fees will be refunded.

For more classes, please visit our website:  2015 Autumn Class Schedule.

Hanging Out at Double Ewe

Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want.  No registration required, no strings attached, just show up.  We have three times set up for you to join us:

  • Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00
  • Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 5:30
  • Saturdays, starting at 9:00am

We gather three times each week, however if you find yourself with some time to kill, or just want a little escape, stop on by anytime we're open and find a spot around the coffee table; enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and relax a while.

Please note:  Open Knitting is not a class.  Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.  For dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice classes.

That's all for now, folks!  Once again, I'd like to thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop.
