News from Double Ewe
July 1, 2015

Good day, folks!

A couple of little things before I get into the meat of this months newsletter.  Double Ewe will be closed on the 4th of July.  We'll be open as usual the rest of the week, so if you're heading out of town, you've got until 6pm on Friday to pick up your supplies.  Enjoy your holiday!

Want to keep up with what's happening at Double Ewe between newsletters?  Do you just like pictures of pretty yarn?   We have another option for you:  Instagram!  My username is DoubleEweYarn, or you click on the link to the left.  Bear with me while I get used to another social media.  What's next?  I always said I'd never tweet, but who knows...

Summer Classes
Our summer classes have been going well, and we still have a few openings in some of them.  You can see the class schedule here:  Summer Class Schedule.  We have openings left in:  The Fibonacci Cowl, Happy Hoppin' Hands, Grazing Sheep Project Bag and Fixing Mistakes.

It's not listed on the schedule yet, but we've added another
Beginning Crochet class that runs on August 4th and 11th.
If you're interested in signing up for this or any other class, just give us a call at 763-795-9276.
Mimi Recall
Yesterday I received some distressing news.  I received an email from Trendsetter Yarns, stating they discovered that Mimi, the 100% mink yarn from Lotus Yarns is in fact not 100% mink.  I won't go into all the details here, but when the fiber content recently came into question, the distributor, Trendsetter, had it tested.  Their test showed the fiber as 40% angora, 13% wool, 30% rayon and 17% nylon.  The change in fiber content and mislabeling happened at the mill, and Trendsetter was not told of the change.  They believed it was 100% mink.

So.  There it is.

Trendsetter has issued a recall of the yarn;  I'm returning my remaining stock of Mimi to them.  If you purchased Mimi from Double Ewe and would like to return it, please bring it in and we'll accept it for a full refund.  If you have your receipt, it would be helpful but not necessary.  If possible, please try to return it to Double Ewe before July 20th so I can include it in my return shipment.

Mimi is still a lovely yarn, and as a yarn there's nothing wrong with it, but it simply isn't want they said it is.  If you choose to keep it, please be aware of the fiber content.
New Stuff
This is that wonderful time of the year when new yarns start trickling it.  I love it!  I'm trying something new for this month's newsletter:  I've created "Bundles" for the new yarns.  Basically it's a quick way of seeing some examples of projects with the yarns.  It's a Ravelry feature, but you don't have to be a member of Ravelry to see them, so click on the links and check them out!

Mechita from Malabrigo
Ravelry Bundle
This just arrived, and it's so beautiful!  100% superwash merino, single ply, fingering weight, kettle dyed.  I'm having a hard time picking my favorite color, but I think it's Whales Road.  SO pretty.

Frolicking Feet DK Gradient by Done Roving
Ravelry Bundle
100% superwash merino, DK weight in beautiful gradient colors packaged in a handy clam-shell that protects your yarn while you work with it.  I'm working on Beddington by Jen Lucas, and I'm much further along than in this photo...I probably have about 1/2 hour left until I'm done.  Maybe you can see it when you stop by the shop - it's so pretty!

Arne & Carlos Design Line from Regia
Ravelry Bundle
Regia is know for their awesome, durable sock yarns, and these self-patterning colors make them even more fun - click on the bundle to see how really cool they are.  Get 'em while you can!

DPN WIP Holders
These snappy cases are Double Pointed Needle Work In Progress Holders, or DPN WIP Holders for short.  Nice little fabric cases that snap around your 6" or 7" double pointed needles while you're not working on that sock - holds the  needles snug & secure so you don't lose any stitches, and your sock hangs out on the outside.  Ingenious.  Handy, cute, and locally made.
This Month on Facebook
While I try not to clutter your inbox and send this newsletter just once a month, I do post things to the Double Ewe Facebook page quite often (link at the top left column of this email).  I understand that many of you prefer not do use Facebook, so I'll share a few of the posts from the last month.

Here's an idea for a gift for a special baby.  Knit in Sprout, a soft, bulky, cushy organic cotton in a basic chevron stitch.  Right now the pattern is chicken-scratchings on a crumpled paper, but I'll get it written up real quick.  Promise.  :)

I just finished these beaded fingerless mitts, and it was a really fun project!  We've got a class with Diane Augustin scheduled for them on August 18 & 25 if you'd like some assistance.  Otherwise, the pattern is available on Ravelry, and we can set you up with some lovely yarn and beads.

Sometimes I just want to knit.  I mean literally, just knit.  This is the perfect project for those times.  It's beautiful in it's simplicity, and the yarn did all the color work.  I just knit. :)

One of our very favorite yarns at the shop has come out with 5 new gorgeous colors, and here they are.  So pretty, and we've got them in every weight.

This is Perfection, a machine wash & dry acrylic/wool blend.  I can't say enough good about this stuff.  Made in the US with US domestic merino wool.  We've got it in lots of weights:  DK, worsted, chunky, and super bulky, in oodles of colors (in DK & worsted weights we stock at least 35 colors each!).  And it's very affordable too.  Good stuff.

Pretty, right?  This was a fun, quick project that uses about 220 yards of worsted weight yarn - often that's just one skein.  A great excuse to splurge on something decadent.

Hanging Out at Double Ewe

Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want.  No registration required, no strings attached, just show up.  We have three times set up for you to join us:

  • Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00
  • Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 5:30
  • Saturdays, starting at 9:00am

We gather three times each week, however if you find yourself with some time to kill, or just want a little escape, stop on by anytime we're open and find a spot around the coffee table; enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and relax a while.

Please note:  Open Knitting is not a class.  Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.  For dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice classes.

That's all for now, folks!  Once again, I'd like to thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop.
