Spring-ish Stuff

Spring is here!  With it comes sunshine, Easter, fresh air, sunny evenings and lifted spirits.  I could go on and on.  Spring has sprung.

With Easter this weekend, lots of folks have asked me if we're going to be open this Friday, Good Friday.  Yes we are, from 10 - 6.  If you have the day off, why not join us for some fiber comradery - there's almost always some folks hanging out at the shop on Fridays.  Join in the fun.

Bunches of new stuff to share - both yarny and not-so-yarny.  If you follow us on Facebook, you've already seen some but not all of it.  Scroll on!

Oh, and one more note:  You might notice that some of the photos in this newsletter are much better than others.  I have Bert Jones to thank for that.  His are the nice ones shot with professional equipment and talent, mine are the amateurish ones, shot with an iPad, always in a hurry.  :)  Thanks, Bert!

Ninth Annual Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop
The shop hop is almost here!  It runs next Thursday, April 9 through Sunday, April 12.

There are several components to the yarn shop hop, including limited edition yarn, free patterns, supporting local food shelves & collectables, and prizes.  Lots of prizes.  For details, visit MinnesotaYarnShopHop.com, or you can follow the hop on Facebook.

The shop is truly going to be hopping during the event.  The energy level and creativity abounds - it's definitely worth a stop, even if you're not going to all the shops.  We're going to be using the class table for the passport-stamping, food-shelf-donating, trinket-giving, pattern-getting part of it.   So, I'm afraid seating at the shop is going to be limited these four days.  Thanks for understanding.
Save the Date:  WWKIP Day 2015

Remember back in the day...at the old Double Ewe, our Knit In Public Days?  Good times.  Of course we're going to continue the tradition!

It's a fun day of knitting & crocheting outside, snacks, laughter, prizes, friends, and all that good stuff.  To learn more about World Wide Knit in Public Day, visit wwkipday.com.  More info to follow, but for now mark your calendar:  June 13 is WWKIP Day.

New Stuff
We've been tempting people with new yarny and not-so-yarny things this month.  We'll start with the yarny:

Autumn Wind
from Lotus Yarns
A luxurious blend of cotton & cashmere that begs to be knit into summer scarves or shawls.  This is an easy, quick to knit one called Oh, Helen!  Freebie on Ravelry.

--------------------

Sprout
from Classic Elite
Sprout is a soft, cushy organic cotton with a slightly nubby texture.  Even though it's a chunky weight cotton, it stays light and lofty once knit.  Beautiful stuff!

--------------------

Ewe So Sporty
from Ewe Ewe Yarns
100% fine Australian merino merino, soft, bouncy, luxurious and a pleasure to knit.   It's a sport weight and washable, making it a great choice for the special children in your life, as well as countless projects for adults.  We're starting with 10 colors from their modern palette, and hope to add more as we go.

--------------------

Opera
from Lana Grossa
Ok, I confess, right now we just have two colors of Opera, but it's so pretty, I couldn't wait to tell you about it. Rest assured, more colors are coming.   It's a blend of mostly cotton with nylon & viscose, but what makes it really special is the sequins.  Tiny little sequins.  Pretty.

--------------------

Panda Cotton Stria

Another non-wool option for socks, but not just socks.  It's an excellent choice for baby knitting or any lightweight project.  A blend of bamboo, cotton & elastic nylon.  The bamboo gives a great feel & luster, the cotton adds a soft core, and the elastic nylon retains the shape & makes for durable socks.  And the colors.  The colors!

And for the not-so-yarny:

Retro 100% cotton, fair trade large bags & notion pouches, hand made in Nepal.  Each one is really unique - I wish I could show you them all here!  C'mon, let your inner hippie shine!

--------------------

Interchangeable Needle Cases from Knitter's Pride  Compact, handy.  They come in three color designs.  I have two sets of Karbonz in mine:  the Deluxe set, and the Special (16") set.  Our first order sold out within a few days, but rest assured, our second order should be here very soon.

--------------------

Yarn Cozies
from Buffy Ann Designs
These keep your yarn nice, neat, clean and cozy.  Socks for your yarn!

--------------------

Snappy Bags  from Buffy Ann Designs
A nice bag for your smaller projects - two snap closures, adjustable strap, carabiner clip and attached notions pouch.

--------------------

They're tape measures.  How can you resist?

UPCOMING CLASSES & KAL'S

We've got some fun things coming up at the shop.  For details, please see the schedule here on our website, or stop by the shop for a copy.
  • Knitting with Nancy Lindberg - Nancy has one more session planned before her well earned summer break.  It's a 4 week session, starting May 21st.  See the schedule for details.
  • Kelly's Workshop:  Knitter or Crochet - Your Choice - an inexpensive drop-in style class where you can learn new techniques, learn with friends, or get unstuck on a project.  Just about anything goes:  it's your choice.
  • Knit Alongs - classes that are a bit more casual and inexpensive.  No big commitment; each project is two or three weeks long, and you can come to all the sessions or just one or two. Coming up:  A Primer in Lace, Basic Socks, Learn to Knit:  Knitting Boot Camp, and Ravelry 101

Details are here.

This Month on Facebook
While I try not to clutter your inbox and send this newsletter just once a month, I do post things to the Double Ewe Facebook page quite often (link at the top left column of this email).  I understand that many of you prefer not do use Facebook, so I'll share a few of the posts from the last month.

All of the yarns are available at Double Ewe, and the patterns are available at Double Ewe or on Ravelry.

Tami has started cranking out some summer socks to wear with her Keens.  So cute!
Pattern:  Turkish Bed Socks from Churchmouse
Yarn:  My First Regia

My nephew Mac stopped in the shop today and picked up the chemo hats we've been making for United Hospital in St. Paul.  28 more hats headed their way.  Thanks, everybody!

Looking for a beautiful, lightweight summer scarf?  Here's an option.  The pattern is Dangling Conversation (without the beads), and Kerri knit this using just one skein of Tahiti - our very lightweight, gradient cotton.

Kerri brought in another lightweight, gorgeous scarf today.  This time it's knit with just one ball of Boboli Lace, and the pattern is Augustine Shawlette.  It's reminiscent of the classic Knitty pattern, Clapotis, but it's a crescent shape instead of a rectangle.  Purty!

Look at this cute little number Tami dropped off this morning.  So springy!
Pattern:  Child's Spring Garden Tee by Alana Dakos
Yarn:  Frolicking Feet DK, Lemon Meringue

Hanging Out at Double Ewe

Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want.  No registration required, no strings attached, just show up.  We have three times set up for you to join us:

  • Tuesday evenings, 6 - 9
  • Friday afternoons, 10 - 6
  • Saturdays, starting at 9:00am

We gather three times each week, however if you find yourself with some time to kill, or just want a little escape, stop on by anytime we're open and find a spot around the coffee table; enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and relax a while.

Please note:  Open Knitting is not a class.  Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.  For dedicated help, consider coming to one of our Knitter's Choice classes.

That's all for now, folks!  Once again, I'd like to thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop.
