Grand Opening Celebration - September 13th
We're planning a celebration, and everyone is invited! We're still working out some of the details, but keep some time on Saturday, September 13th open...or keep the whole day open! There will be Double Ewe swag, door prizes, and more. We're also planning on raising some funds for our local foodshelf during the event - more on that later.
Since we missed the last couple of Knit in Public Days, if it's a nice day, it'd be fun to bust out of the shop and knit outside again. I'll be sending another email with a reminder and the full details, but for now remember:
Saturday September 13th, 9:00 - 5:00
Don't miss out!

New Stuff
Since we're just in our fourth week since re-opening, I feel like most things are new, and they are! However, in the last two weeks, we've added even a few more yarns. That's the best part of having a yarn shop! So, in no particular order, let me introduce them to you:
Knightsbridge from The Fiber Company
This is a delicious blend of baby llama, merino and silk. It begs to be knitted into something worn close to the skin. The sophisticated heathered colors are absolutely beautiful. I'm currently working on a hat with it, Royston, and I keep stopping and saying to myself, I love this yarn. Knightsbridge is probably the nicest yarn I've knit with for a long, long time, and I've knit with some very nice yarns. I'll honestly be sad when my project is done, but I'll have the memories. (And the hat!)

Bazinga from Plymouth Yarn
Rememer Bazinga? Bazinga was very popular at Double Ewe before we closed in 2012. When we re-opened last month, I had lots of people ask me if I was going to carry it again, and at that point, I wasn't sure. Well, I got the news from Plymouth Yarns that Bazinga is being discontinued. Sad. But the good news is, I was able to stock up on it at a discounted price. So, while supplies last, I have all eight colors available at a very nice price. Back in the day, I wrote two free patterns for Bazinga: Bel et Bon Cowl and Bel et Bon Mitts; both are great for quick gifts.
--------------------------------
Blue Sky Alpacas and Spud & Chloe
Both Blue Sky and Spud & Chloe yarns have been on my wish list for years, but I just didn't feel I had the room to add two new lines in my old space - we were pretty maxed out, and I probably wouldn't have done them justice. Both of these lines are very popular because of their gorgeous colors, high quality, and really nice style. This is getting a bit long, so I won't go into great detail here, but the yarns I've started with are:
Extra
from Blue Sky
Organic Worsted Cotton
from Blue Sky
Multi Cotton
from Blue Sky
Skinny Cotton
from Blue Sky
Sweater
from Spud & Chloe
I have some projects rolling around in my head for all of these, so you'll be hearing more about them in future.

Fresh Off The Needles
This is where I like to highlight our most recently finished projects.
North Hollow Cowl
When I first talked to the folks at Blue Sky, they sent me a sample skein of their newest yarn: Extra. It's a gorgeous blend of alpaca & merino, and it comes in big, plump 150 gram skeins. It's beautiful. One skein is enough for any number of projects, but I chose to make the North Hollow Cowl. The pattern is available as a Ravelry download that can be purchased as an individual or through Double Ewe, and I also have it in print. It's a very cleverly packaged pattern; pair the pattern with just one skein of Extra, and it'd be gift that any knitter friend would love. Now I just need to get the buttons on it!

Country Roving Toque
After all the poshness that is the North Hollow Cowl, I want to tell you about my Country Roving Toque - a good solid wooly-wool. From Briggs & Little, it's one of the more unusual yarns I've added to my bag of tricks this time around. It's actually 5 strands of unspun roving that can be either spun or knit. It's 100% wool, and makes really warm, thick mittens, hats, outdoor sweaters and so on. This hat was a quick knit, and it would be super warm.

They have quite a few free other free knitting patterns available on their website; check out the Canada Pride sweaters knit with Country Roving. They look super warm.
On The Rocks
While I've been knitting little samples: scarves, hats, cowls, and the like, Tami whipped up this cute sweater (plus a ton of little samples as well!). It's knit with Cozette from Knit One Crochet Too, which is a blend of silk & cotton with a touch of nylon - it's lovely, and it took her just three skeins.

How Much Does This Cost?
One of my pet peeves when shopping for anything is not being able to find the price. If I have to ask, I'm just not going to make the purchase.
When we were setting up the new shop, one of my biggest goals was to make our prices readily and consistently available so no one would be surprised at the cash register. Today, I thought I'd take a quick moment to tell you where to find our prices.
If the yarn is in a cube or shelf, the price should be on the shelf above the yarn in question, with arrows pointing down to avoid confusion. Some yarns are in many cubes or shelves, though, so if you're looking at a cube with no price marked, look at the cubes above it for the price, verifying the yarns name with the sign.
If the yarn is on one of our grid fixtures, there is a yellow sign on the upper left corner of each side with prices listed for all the yarns on that side. If you look at the name of the yarn on the label, I'm hoping it's clear which price applies to your yarn.
For our wire cube section, I've priced each section of cubes with yellow price signs.
My hope is that with consistency in how we display our prices, we'll avoid any unpleasant surprises at the cash register!

Classes
I've finally been able to put together some classes. You'll probably notice that there aren't a ton of them, but it's a work in progress; I hope you understand.
Before I list the scheduled classes, I have a question for you. In my old shop, I had several "workshop" style classes. In these classes, each student worked at their own level on any project they liked, and we were there to help. Some people learned to knit in theses sessions, some folks worked on projects that were a little more challenging to them, and some folks just enjoyed knitting with a safety net. These were pay-as-you-go style classes; there was a weekly fee, or you could buy a punch card for a reduced fee. My question for you: are you interested in this kind of class? If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to start them up again. I'm just looking for some feedback.

Open Knitting & Crochet
Join us for a fun social time while working on whatever you want. No registration required - just show up. No strings attached and completely free. We have three times a week:
- Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:00
- Friday afternoons, 1:30 - 5:30
- Saturdays, starting at 9:00am
Please note: Open Knitting is not a class. Although I'm always happy to answer questions as time permits, sometimes it gets a bit hectic.
