Dear SGES Family,
Today, students in grades 5 - 8 did an excellent job in presenting their science fair projects during the annual science fair. The wide range of topics reflected the students' interest and highlighted the creativity and innovation our students have. The judges were from different organizations such as the CDC, Gordon College, University of Georgia, as well as a few alumni in college and high school. The science fair project is an enormous undertaking for our students, but they all did a great job and we know this experience will be helpful in the future.
Earlier this week, we informed our parent body that Susan Bartholomew has decided to take a position with a business in Griffin. Susan has been an integral part of SGES throughout every phase of our history. She and Bruce are one of our founding families, and Susan has served as a music teacher and for the last seven years served as our director of admissions. Under her leadership, we have seen enrollment increase and services expand. Susan has also lead our Georgia GOAL tax credit program that has benefited scores of students.
I hope you will join our student body during chapel on Monday at 8:05 am in Billy's Chapel to help us thank Susan. We will take just a few moments to express our deep appreciation for all of her time at SGES.
The Get-Away-Gig is only TWO weeks away. We hope you will make plans to attend and enjoy this festive event. Gig t-shirt sales end on Monday, March 22
nd and Gig tickets may be purchased under the Get-Away-Gig tab at

On Wednesday, February 24
th, we will host parent-teacher conferences. If you would like to visit with your child's teacher, please make sure you have scheduled a time with them. If you have any questions, please contact Wendy Daniel (

Next Friday, February 26th, the school will present the Lion King. We are excited about the opportunity to have all of our students in pre-kindergarten through middle school on stage performing this musical. The show will begin at 6:00 pm at the Lamar County Fine Arts Center in Barnesville.
Have a great weekend,
Larry Collins
