A Word from Dr. Collins

Dear SGES Family,

Truly one of my most favorite days of the school year is Grandparents and Grand friends day.  Today, we welcomed close to 300 guests in our annual salute to these special people.  The students did very well speaking about the school and singing an assortment of songs.  Each 8th grader shared a few memories and lessons learned from his or her grandparents.  It was really a wonderful day.

This week has been busy for our 9th grade class.  On Saturday, they hosted a "Muddy Trail Run" with over 100 runners and benefitting the African Children's Mission.  A special thanks to the Potter family, Suni Clements, and Brandy Tuttle for assisting with this project.

Also this week, the 9th graders toured Boston and New York City as part of their fall trip.  The students are enjoying historic sites, key tourist attractions, and cultural events.

Today marked the end of the 1st nine weeks and many fall athletic events.  Our two volleyball teams finished their seasons last week.  The junior varsity had a very good season and improved so much as they competed against large schools or varsity teams.  The middle school volleyball team finished second in our region and competed in the state tournament this past Tuesday.  The future of St. George's volleyball team is bright.

The middle school cross country teams finished its seasons on high notes.  The girls' middle school team finished third in the state meet this past Wednesday and the boys' middle school team won the state meet.  Talbot Potter individually placed sixth, and on the boys' side, Chaz Martinez was the runner up, Cade Scanlon finished third, Sam Cross placed sixth, and Butler Matthews was eighth.

Congratulations to the first grade class, Ellis Clements, Griffin Davis, and Allan Muise for having their art work selected for the Kiwanis Club.  The pieces will be on display this week at the Griffin Fair.

Our next Lunch and Learn is Wednesday, October 21 at noon.  The speaker will be Tina Oresteen, an environmental educator with the Georgia Aquarium.  We hope you can join us; bring a lunch or for lunch reservations please RSVP to Erin Mulder (emulder@sges.org).

The school is celebrating our 20th year with a dinner at one of our founding families-Mark and Sally Peek.  We hope you will consider attending the celebration on Friday, October 23 at 7 pm.  For more information or to RSVP please contact Mitzi Hammock at St. George's (770-358-9432 or mhammock@sges.org).

Next week is fall break, but the school office will be open Tuesday through Thursday.

Enjoy your break,

Larry Collin
