Blessing of the Animals
A Word from Dr. Collins

Dear SGES Family,

This morning's Blessing of the Animals reminded me of the old hymn, "There Shall Be Showers of Blessings."  Even though there were a few showers it did not stop the fun the students had bringing their pets to school for a blessing from Reverend Nancy.  All of us enjoyed seeing the various pets from the dogs and cats, to the horses and chicken.

Next Tuesday, September 29th, we will host a St. George's Family Picnic.  We are hosting both cross country and volleyball that afternoon and at 5:45 pm we will have our annual fun run.  After the race at 6:00 pm, you can enjoy a meal together in the Grove.  This will be a great opportunity to socialize with friends and meet parents and students in other grades.  All meals are $3.50 and the deadline to RSVP is Monday, September 28th by 10 am.

On Thursday of next week, October 1st, we are hosting our first Common Ground Speakers Series of the year.  Dimy Mixon, a marriage and family therapist, and a St. George's past parent will lead the discussion on the culture of female friendships and how aggression looks differently with girls than with boys.  She will lead us in how to talk with our children about fostering healthy relationships with peers.  Please RSVP to Erin Mulder (emulder@sges.org) by Wednesday, September 30th.

Also, Thursday, October 1st, the fall flowers orders will be delivered and available for pick up in the gym from noon to 4:00 pm.

Thank you so much to all of our parents who completed our parent survey.  You have until Monday morning to make your submissions if you have not done so yet.  Your feedback is critical as we move forward with planning for the next few years.

Congratulations to Gray Long and Sarah Edwards for being selected by their 9th grade peers as the president of the Student Activities Board and the Student Issues Board, respectively.  Half of the 9th graders serve on committees that plan and execute various activities such as service projects, socials, and other activities through the Student Activities Board.  The other half of the class serves on various committees that address student issues such as honor code, campus improvements, dress code, and peer conflicts in middle school and high school.

We are very proud of our middle school volleyball team.  They are currently in 2nd place in our middle school region and have their last two regular season matches next week.  All of our student athletes have done an amazing job working as a team and representing St. George's so well.

We hope you can make the picnic Tuesday and enjoy the weekend,

Larry Collins
