Dear SGES Family,
Today our middle school students went to the ballot polls. They selected our student council officers for this upcoming year. We had 14 students vying for five position; all 14 did an incredible job delivering his or her campaign speech to the student body. The officers are:
President - Chaz Martinez
Vice-president - Sam Cross
Secretary - Drew Collins
Treasurer - Timothy Brooks
Spirit Rep - Emily Edwards
Also today, our Lower School students participated in a dress up day for the "favorite" book character. The students shared why the book and character was meaningful to them.
This past week, St. George's won its first ever varsity event. The varsity boys' cross country team won the Oak Mountain Academy invitational that consisted of over 20 varsity schools. We are so proud of these young men. Sam Potter finished 2nd in the varsity boys' race and Cade Scanlon placed 8th. In the middle school boys' race, Sam Cross finished 5th overall, and Talbot Potter finished 6th in the girls' race. Milz Cain finished 11th in the varsity girls' race.
Next Friday, September 18th, the Middle School Beta Club will induct its new 7th grade members. The service will begin immediately after Celebration Chapel.
On Sunday, October 4
th, the 9
th grade class is organizing a "Muddy Trail Run" 5k benefiting the African Children's Mission. The race will be hosted at the Potter Farm with a fun run at 4:30 and muddy run at 5:30. To register you can visit tiny.cc/muddy or email
giveback@sges.org. The run is sponsored by Griffin OB/GYN, Griffin Homecare, and Waffle House.
As you are probably aware, this is St. George's 20th year serving the community. We will have several opportunities to celebrate this accomplishment. Please mark your calendar for Friday, October 23, 2015, for an evening celebration. Over 20 years ago, a group of parents meet at Mark and Sally Peek's home to discuss the possibility of beginning a school. So, we thought no better place to celebrate but to return to where the dream began. The Peeks have graciously agreed to host our celebration party and we hope you will make plans to attend.
This morning at Celebration Chapel, we took a few minutes to honor our country for the way we have traditionally responded to negative situations like 9/11. We talked about how fortunate we are to live in a country where brave men and women protect us through the military services and law enforcement agency. We are truly blessed to live in this great country.
We hope you enjoy the weekend,
Larry Collins
