A Word from Dr. Collins

Dear SGES Families,

It was a wonderful morning to celebrate the school year and to begin summer break.  This has been an incredible school year.  We opened the Harrison Wing, sports and nature trails, received a $1 million gift, and announced the beginning of a high school.  The students accomplished remarkable achievements in and out of the classroom.  Our students scored high on standardized tests, we won state athletic titles in middle school, and extended services to multiple worthy causes.  Today's honors chapel was a good reflection of the remarkable year.

Last week at 8tgrade commencement, we honored two of our 8th graders with the Headmaster's Award and  Bishop's Award.  The Headmaster's Award is given to that member of the graduating class who best exemplifies the principles upon which St. George's was founded: academic excellence, dedicated leadership, outstanding citizenship, and religious faithfulness.  This year's Headmaster's Award was presented to Sam Potter.
The Bishop's Award is given to that member of the graduating class who best exemplifies the mission of St. George's as a school of the Episcopal Church:  to seek and to serve Christ in all persons, loving one's neighbor as oneself; to strive for justice and peace among all people; and to respect the dignity of every human begin.  This year's Bishop's Award was given to Alexandria Hatten.

As a tribute to the various contributions that Dr. William and Mrs. Mariella King made to St. George's Episcopal School and this region, we established the King Legacy Award.  This award is given to one member of the 5th grade class and 8th
grade class at St. George's.  This award recognizes a student who has shown potential in leadership, service to the community, integrity, and most importantly an aptitude for greater leadership and service in the years to come.  In Dr. King's words in becoming "an outstanding citizen."  The King Legacy Award was given this year to Gray Long  (8thgrade) and Zoe Jordan (5th grade).

Camp Blaze begins in two weeks on Monday, June 1st.  Please go to www.sges.org under Form Stack to register.

Next week, our Dragon Tales will have more information about summer schedules and assignments.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful summer,

Larry Collins
