A Word from Dr. Collins
Dear SGES Families,
The rainy weather did not slow down our House Competition today. Students played Easter themed games and competed in an egg drop. Students had to "protect" an egg using limited supplies from being dropped from various heights from a Jeff Manley bucket truck. We appreciate all of the students work and are grateful for Mr. Manley's assistance.
Yesterday, our track team completed their season at the Stratford Invitational Ribbon Meet. Milz Cain placed 4th in 1600 meter and 5th in 100 meter runs. Gray Long and Haden Davis finished 5th and 6th in the 100 meter run.
Congratulations to our golf team. They placed first in the GICAA state middle school tournament with a score of 202 and Chaz Martinez was the low medalist.
This week our Lower and Middle School students took their standardized tests. Also, the students planned and/or executed several service projects. This year the 8th grade class has lead other classes in:
- 6th and 7th grade visited residents at Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Barnesville. They played games and talked with the residents.
- 6th grade helped organize food and clothing pantry at Hope Tree Ministries in Barnesville.
- 7th grade assisted in reading and playing with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students
- 7th grade helped organized a few storage areas on campus
- 8th grade made "no sew" fleece blankets for teenagers at Children's Hospital in Macon
Later this month the 6th and 7th grade will accompany students from Stepping Stones to the Rock Ranch as a "friend" for each of their students attending. Also, the 4th and 5th grade students are organizing a "Color for a Cure" fun run on Friday, May 1st at 2:15. The event will raise awareness and money for juvenile diabetes. The deadline to ensure a t-shirt is Wednesday, April 22nd; however, you may register that day and bring your own white t-shirt.
Next week our Lower and Middle School students will be off campus with various overnight field trips. These are excellent educational opportunities as well as times the students will remember forever.
Have a good weekend,
Larry Collins
