A Word from Dr. Collins

Dear SGES Families,

Today in Celebration Chapel, we recognized students in the Lower and Middle School who received all "A"'s and "B"'s for the third nine weeks.  We have a very demanding academic program and all of our students are performing well, and we are proud of all of the students.  Congratulations to the students who earned Honor Roll and Headmaster's Lists.

Yesterday, many of our students participated in the middle school track meet hosted by Stratford Academy.  We do not have the official results since there were multiple heats, but many of our students placed in the top five in several events.  We look forward to recognizing these students soon.

This morning the 3rd grade class presented Marshall Hooks, chair for Lamar County's Relay for Life committee, a check for $300.  The 3rd grade students organized and executed a "Capitals for Cancer" cookie sale.  The students prepared cookies in shapes of the 50 states, in conjunction with their unit on states and capitals, and sold the cookies before school.  I am grateful for our 3rd graders' leadership in this service project.

Please remember the Beta Club is sponsoring a
"Penny War" to raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.  The competition is by division and the winning team will have extra recess for a week.  Students may turn in the change, or dollars, until Thursday, April 2nd.

One of the fastest growing sports in the country is competitive
clay sporting targets.  From the Olympics, to colleges, to high school, this sport is gaining popularity.  We are hosting a parents' informational meeting this Thursday, April 2

nd at 8:00 am in the Edwards' Family Conference Room in the Harrison Wing.  The sport is open to middle school and high school students.  If you cannot make the meeting but would like more information please let Jannellen (jrigg@sges.org) know.

The Book Fair continues through this Thursday,
April 2nd in the Learning Enrichment Center in the Harrison Wing.  We hope you can stop by to purchase a few new books.

School will be closed next Friday, April 3rd, for
Good Friday.  The following week, April 6 - 10, is
Spring Break, and classes resume on Monday, April 13th.

Have a great weekend,

Larry Collins
