Volunteer Spotlight

LaRhea Whitehurst / Troop Leader #5141, SU Recruiter / 12 years GS

Q: What is the most surprising thing you have learned/done so far?

A: The friends you make in Girl Scouts are some of the best friends you will ever meet.

Q: How have You developed as a leader?

A: I know now that being a leader is a learning experience.  Each year I get better and more comfortable!

Madeline Marquette / SU Treasurer, Event Volunteer, 37 years

Q: What is the most surprising thing you have learned/done so far?

A: I have learned that, with training, I can do almost anything.  I even repelled and zip lined.

Q: What do you wish others knew about volunteering with GS Diamonds?

A: I wish everyone would know what wonderful friends you meet when you volunteer with the              Girl Scouts.  I want them to know all of the travel opportunities and interesting trainings.

Diana McKinney / Troop Leader # 2239/ 2 yrs

Q: What do you wish others knew about volunteering with GS Diamonds?

A: How much it thrills the girls.   If more people knew how much the girls enjoy it and get out of it, they would want to be more involved.

Q: How have You developed as a leader?

A: When planning anything I know that "Planning & Preparing" are big stress relievers.   As far ahead in advance as you can, start planning because procrastination is not helpful. Also, "The girls' don't know what they don't know." Even if you plan something and it doesn't come out the way you intended it, the girls will still enjoy it (and they often don't miss what went off schedule).
