|Richmond CASA Welcomes Cristi Head
Cristi Head has been involved in the field of violence against women and children for 15 years. While working towards her Law Degree in 2004, Cristi spent 2 months in Cambodia working on anti-predatory sex tourism related to children and minors. She also held the position of Assistant Commonwealths Attorney in Fairfax County handling domestic violence cases.
In November, Cristi joined SCAN as the part-time Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager for Richmond CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). In her role as Volunteer Coordinator, Cristi recruits CASA Volunteers, helps with trainings, retention, and volunteer recognition. As a Case Manager, Cristi manages two CASA's, supporting them throughout their cases.
"I was looking to join a non-profit that was well run, established, and gave me the opportunity to learn from those around me," said Cristi. "SCAN is a productive and positive organization with dedicated staff and volunteers. I enjoy coming to work each day."
Each Richmond CASA staff member is required to take a case as a CASA. "I just received my case, which I will work on for about a year and a half. I am really excited for this opportunity, because it is so important to understand what our CASA Volunteers experience," said Cristi.
Santa Shop Helps Over 300 Children During the Holidays
This year's Santa Shop helped 100 families and over 300 children enjoy a brighter holiday. Each child received 2-4 gifts, beautifully wrapped and chosen by their parent or guardian.
Volunteers helped organize and sort the many toys donated into different age categories, to help parents and guardians easily shop and choose the best gifts for each child.
Volunteers also helped decorate the space to provide a wonderful holiday theme for the children visiting the Santa Shop. While the parents shopped, the children were able to enjoy pictures with Santa, holiday crafts, and holiday movies.
Thank you to the James Center for hosting this event for the 4th year in a row, and partnering with SCAN for the Grand Illumination toy drive.

Erin Jewett joined SCAN's Board of Directors this year, and has since enjoyed a positive and engaging experience getting to know fellow Board Members. "I have enjoyed working with other Board Members on projects within SCAN, while learning about their experience on the Board, and why they support this cause," said Erin.
"As a table captain at this year's Child Advocates Breakfast, I was thrilled to see the response from my friends when asked to join me in supporting SCAN," said Erin. "Because of SCAN's great reputation and strong leadership as a non-profit in the community, they had no hesitation to help support the cause."
As a member of the Board of Directors, Erin has attended a Richmond CASA court hearing. "Attending the CASA court hearing was such a moving and shocking experience," said Erin. "It really exposed the reality of what happens to children in our community."
