BYP Member and CASA Volunteer Rachel Rosenberg
Incoming SCAN Board of Young Professional's member Rachel Rosenberg is dedicated to helping children within her community. She is currently a Richmond CASA Volunteer and a member of SCAN's Board of Young Professionals.
As a CASA, Rachel advocates for the best interests of children who have been abused and/or or neglected in the City of Richmond. She is currently working with 3 siblings, and Rachel says the most rewarding experience so far has been the change she can see in the children each month. "I am now seeing them thrive in their foster home, and although we started with little conversation between us, we are now having meaningful conversations and building a relationship."
Richmond CASA is celebrating its 25th year, and has served over 10,000 children since their establishment in 1990. While there are many dedicated volunteers, CASA Volunteers are always needed. Currently, Richmond CASA has 105 children on the waiting list and counting.
Rachel became a CASA volunteer after moving to Richmond last year to get her PHD in Social Work at VCU. She plans to be a Federal Policy Analyst around Child Welfare issues. "I heard about CASA in Kentucky, and thought becoming a CASA volunteer would be a great opportunity to get involved within the Richmond community, while using my skills as a social worker," Rachel said.
