The Petroleum Quality Institute of America Announces Chevron Oronite Company as a New Supporter

The Petroleum Quality Institute of America (PQIA), an independent watchdog monitoring the quality of motor oils and other lubricants in the market, announced today that Chevron Oronite Company LLC, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, has joined as a new PQIA supporter.

Thomas F. Glenn, President of PQIA says, "We welcome Oronite's support and its commitment to quality. Oronite's support, along with that of other quality-conscious concerns supporting PQIA enables us to achieve our mission to serve the consumer of lubricants by testing and reporting on the quality and integrity of lubricants in the marketplace."

Headquartered in San Ramon, California, Chevron Oronite is a leading developer, manufacturer and marketer of fuel and lubricant additives. The company has regional offices in Houston, Paris, and Singapore and manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the world.

"Chevron Oronite is pleased to support PQIA," said Teri Crosby, Global Automotive Engine Oils Product Manager, Chevron Oronite. "By monitoring the integrity of lubricant products in the US, PQIA not only helps create wider conformance among lubricant providers, but also provides consumers the information they need to make informed decisions about the quality and performance of lubricant brands."

PQIA systematically tests all brands of engine oils being sold in the US and reports to the consuming public on how well these brands comply with claims made for them by their marketers. To date, PQIA has identified over 20 different brands of packaged motor oils and ATFs on retail shelves that can cause damage to car engines or transmissions. In addition, dozens more brands have been found that fail a claimed specification or are labeled with false or misleading claims.

"While it is clear we face serious challenges with poor quality off-spec engine oils and other lubricants in the market, we are encouraged to know that Oronite, along with PQIA's other supporters are willing to step up to help do something about it," says Glenn.

PQIA supporters include:  Afton, Chevron, Lubrizol, Infineum, Phillips 66, CITGO, Warren Oil, Safety-Kleen, Warren Distribution, Lubricating Specialties Co., Pinnacle Oil, Lubrication Engineers, JAX, CHS Industries, Eni USA R&M Co., Gulf Lubricants, Universal Lubricants, Royal Purple, Reliance Fluid Technologies, Chemlube, G.H. Berlin Lubricants, Parman Energy, Circle Lubricants, Leahy-Wolf, Ocean State Oil and Domestic Fuels and Lubes, Dennis K. Burke, L.F. Powers, PetroChoice, Amber Resources, and now Chevron Oronite.  Click for more on PQIA
