Spotlight on High Mileage Motor Oils

September 23, 2014

Growing in popularity, the Petroleum Quality Institute of America is now taking a look at the High Mileage motor oils on retail shelves. High Mileage motor oils are typically formulated for use in vehicles with more than 75,000 miles on the engine. They usually contain additives that provide enhanced deposit, sludge and wear protection. In addition, they typically contain seal conditioners to help reduce oil leaks.

The result on the second group of high mileage motor oils follow below.

Antifreeze - Buyer Beware

Last week, the Petroleum Quality Institute observed the North Atlantic antifreeze/coolant brand on the shelves in Greensboro, NC. In addition, PQIA has received reports that the brand is also on the shelves in South Carolina and Georgia.

Buyer Buyer in these states and others...

On September 11, 2014, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) issued Stop-Use and Stop-Removal Order for antifreeze/coolant manufactured, packaged, and/or distributed by Royal Packaging, Inc. of Detroit under the North Atlantic and Shur-XXX brands.

The Stop-Use and Stop-Removal Orders prohibit the sale, offering for sale, or use of antifreeze/coolants manufactured, packaged, and/or distributed by Royal Packaging, Inc. under the North Atlantic and Shur-XXX brands in the state of Michigan. These products should no longer be used, immediately be removed from store shelves or other product displays, and no longer be offered for sale in Michigan. These products may cause damage to vehicle engines.

Although consumers in Michigan can take comfort in knowing the brand has been ordered off the shelves in their State, the brand is still on the shelves in other states.
