Greetings!

We are issuing a
CALL TO ACTION!

The Tennessee Women's Fund Alliance, which includes The Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis and our sister funds in Nashville and Chattanooga has been on the front lines advocating and educating elected officials and civic leaders for more statewide legislation to protect women and children from human trafficking. We have been informed two bills have a chance to pass. However, we need to keep encouraging the members of the finance committees in both the Senate and House to support these important pieces of legislation.

We are asking you to join us and other organization across the state to call or write your representatives and senators. Please take a moment to call today. Below is all the information you need to make lasting and needed change in Tennessee. If you have already done so, thank you and pass this request on. Your actions can influence change.

About the Bills:

Senate Bill 1655/ House Bill 1870: Requires the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to develop and provide training regarding how to identify, report, and respond to human trafficking to law enforcement officers and state personnel in over a dozen departments, agencies and associations.

Senate Bill 1657/ House Bill 2417: If the victim does not testify, the prosecution's case is significantly damaged. An equally compelling evidential alternative to victim testimony is evidence obtained by law enforcement from electronic surveillance. SB 1657 amends the Tennessee wiretap law to include human trafficking and commercial sex and exploitation of children offenses so law enforcement can convict individuals involved in promoting and patronizing trafficked children.

What To Say:

When you contact the representatives here are the messages you can send - in your own words:

Thank you for your support. Your influence is helping to improve efforts to reduce and hopefully eliminate sex trafficking of TN's women and children. I am a TN voter and a resident of the Greater Memphis Area. I want to urge your continued support for two key provisions before you:

Senate Bill 1655/ House Bill 1870 which will provide prompt and timely training regarding how to identify, report, and respond to human trafficking to law enforcement officers and state personnel in over a dozen departments, agencies and associations and will result in the increased prevention and protection of Tennessee's children from being trafficked.

Senate Bill 1657/ House Bill 2417 will provide law enforcement with enhanced tools to convict individuals involved in promoting and patronizing trafficked children by amending the TN wiretap law to include human trafficking and commercial sex and exploitation of children.

Thank you again for all you do for TN's women and children.
