Thank You for Your Participation in #GivingTuesday!
We want to extend a huge thank you to all who participated during #GivingTuesday last week. We hope you enjoyed our Hunger-Free Heroes campaign, and we thank you for help in spreading the word about local hunger issues. With your help, we raised a total of:
$2,340
Not quite enough to meet our #GivingTuesday goal of $3,000, but that $2,340 is enough for:
3,900 meals

7,800 servings of fresh produce

food to feed a family of two for 468 days
Thank You For Your Generous Support!
This Thursday: DART Fares for Food Day
DART's third annual Fares for Food Day will be held Thursday, Dec. 10. Riders can make donations of their standard boarding fares ($1.75 for Local, $2 for Express, and $3.50 for Flex and On Call). Additionally, people who typically pay with passes or employer IDs can make cash donations of any amount into the farebox.

DART will donate all cash fares to the DMARC Food Pantry Network, in support of the Hunger Free Polk County initiative.

Last year, Fares for Food Day brought in $3,861.31 of donated fares to the DMARC Food Pantry Network (photo below).

Ride DART and help fill our warehouse shelves by participating in DART's Fares For Food Day on December 10!

Who Are We?

The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of over 130 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2012 LIVE UNITED Advocate Award from the United Way of Central Iowa, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.

The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines. In 2014, the DMARC Food Pantry Network assisted more than 41,000 individuals in the greater Des Moines community; half of whom are children and youth.

MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on nearly 40 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat.
