Have You Considered Setting Up a Recurring Gift with DMARC?
|
|
Recurring gifts provide steady, predictable revenue that ensures DMARC can respond with much-needed help, even during times of peak pantry use.
Making a recurring gift allows you to provide a very significant yearly donation through smaller installments. For example, a recurring gift of $5 each month results in a $60 annual gift; $10 monthly = $120/year; $25 monthly = $300/year and $100 monthly = $1,200/year.
Setting up a recurring DMARC gift is safe and convenient, and the gift can be stopped at any time. To learn more, or to set up your gift online, visit dmarcunited.org/donate/set-up-a-recurring-gift. Call 515-277-6969 for more details or to request a recurring gift form. |

Crossroads: Using Religion to Discriminate
|
|

Friday, August 21, 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Plymouth Congregational Church
4126 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines
Crossroads is a civility project of the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa.
Using Religion to Discriminate: How Federal and State RFRAs Redefine Religious Freedom
With increasing frequency, we are seeing individuals and institutions claiming a right to discriminate - by refusing to provide care, employment, or services to women and LGBT people - based on religious objections. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 was used to deny some women contraceptive coverage required under the ACA, and state RFRAs have been used to try to bypass state civil rights laws. What was the real intent of RFRA, how does it impact us today, and where do some cross the line into misuse of these laws? Join Rita Bettis, Legal Director of the ACLU of Iowa, to learn more about this important issue and how it impacts Iowans.
Reservations must be received by Tuesday, August 18, and may be made at info@interfaithallianceiowa.org or by calling 515.279.8715. Cost is $10 per individual and is payable at the door. If you make a reservation and are unable to attend, payment for your reservation is appreciated if you do not cancel by the Tuesday deadline.
This venue has a hearing loop and those with telecoils may use them.

Who Are We?
The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of over 130 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2012 LIVE UNITED Advocate Award from the United Way of Central Iowa, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines. In 2013, the DMARC Food Pantry Network assisted more than 34,000 individuals in the greater Des Moines community; half of whom are children and youth.
MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on nearly 40 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat. |
