Douglas M. Woods "Challenge Hunger" Campaign Tops $20,391 Mark in just 25 Days!
|
|
A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to DMARC friends who responded so quickly and who have given so generously!
With Doug's matching $10,000 donation, "Challenge Hunger" gifts will provide enough food for 12 meals each for 3,015 people.
Yet, the need for emergency food assistance remains high.
In an average month, the DMARC Food Pantry Network provides 12 meals each for over 14,000 individuals. More than half of all participants are children, youth or senior citizens.
Can You or Your Group Help Us Reach $20,000 more by April 30th?
While the original Challenge goal has been met, these "over-the-top" gifts will provide 24,000 emergency meals that will help 2,000 people.
|
From March 1 through April 30, 2015, gifts contributed to DMARC that mention the Douglas M. Woods "Challenge Hunger" campaign have been matched 50 cents for every dollar, up to a total of $20,000 given. Funds raised for the Challenge and not yet submitted to DMARC will be credited toward the Challenge.
|
The Donation of the Month for April 2015 is canned chicken. Part of DMARC's health-based monthly meal box pantry clients receive is 5 or 12 oz. cans of chicken, canned in water.

Friday, April 3, 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
We hope you will join us on Good Friday for the annual Way of the Cross procession through downtown Des Moines. This solemn event commemorates the life of Jesus in a visually symbolic way. Participants walk quietly through the city in a spirit of reflection as they not only re-enact an event of nearly 2000 years ago but also acknowledge our complicity with the injustice and prejudice in our communities, state and world.
This event is sponsored by The Bridge, an ecumenical effort between the downtown churches, First United Methodist, St. Ambrose Cathedral, St. John's Lutheran and St. Paul's Episcopal.
The walk will begin at First United Methodist Church at the corner of 10th and Pleasant Streets at 1:30 on Friday, April 3rd. Those interested in participating are welcome to join the procession for all or part of the route.

Featuring: Roxanne Conlin, Founding Partner, Roxanne Conlin & Associates, P.C.
Finding Justice: Women and the Law
Roxanne's distinguished career has been devoted to civil justice - representing underserved people and those who have been harmed by others. She founded the Civil Justice Association, was the first woman president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and was one of the first two women to become a United States Attorney in the Department of Justice. Her keynote presentation will include entertaining and inspiring stories of how she has assisted women in need throughout her remarkable career.
Honoring: Linda Railsback, M.D., Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Retired
We are proud to honor Dr. Railsback for her steadfast commitment to providing and protecting women's healthcare - ensuring prenatal care to women with limited resources, working abroad with several humanitarian organizations, and initiating the effort to create the Mid-Iowa Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). Since retiring from her private practice in 1993, Linda has volunteered with different aid groups, including Doctors of the World, and worked with underserved communities in the Des Moines area.
