Thank you Hans Peterson and Linda Breitag!
Thank you to all who attended the Hans Peterson CD Release Concert on Friday, March 13. The event raised over $100 for the DMARC Food Pantry Network. A special thank you also goes out to Hans Peterson, Linda Breitag, and Terri Speirs.

Hans Peterson played songs from his new album, Every Breath I Sing, including the song you can watch/listen to above, "As Big as an Ocean (I Love You)." Before performing the song, Hans told the story of his son, Simon, praying one night "for the rich to not have too much, and for the poor to have enough." This prayer impacted Hans, and is included in the lyrics of the song. (continue reading...)
Thursday: Harriet Drake Kirkman-Hay Memorial Lecture

The last chapter Romans is often thought to contain largely just a list of names and greetings from Paul to people he knew at Rome. Not only does today's Common Lectionary omit it, but Christians in antiquity already looked askance at it. Why, then, did John Chrysostom, archbishop of Constantinople, preach two separate sermons on this "pedestrian" text? Dean Mitchell's Hay Lecture shows how John's homilies turn this tiny text into a proof of the power of all of scripture.

Margaret M. Mitchell is Dean and Shailer Mathews Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature at the University of Chicago's Divinity School. She has published extensively on a range of topics in New Testament and early Christian writings. She recently received a Guggenheim Fellowship for her latest book project, a volume of translations of occasional sermons by John Chrysostom on Pauline passages.

The Harriet Drake Kirkman-Hay Memorial Lecture was first established in 1925. It is free and open to the public.

An Easter Gift to the World

It has been a decade since the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square have performed Handel's masterpiece, Messiah, at Easter, and the two groups have never performed the entire work in public. Yet this Easter, the Choir and Orchestra will do just that on Good Friday. They will be joined by renowned soloists. Tickets for the two performances at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, UT, sold out in less than 8 minutes!  To make sure the entire world has access to this concert, the Choir is taking extraordinary steps to provide the broadcast to anyone with access to the Internet.

Local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invite friends in the DMARC community to share this opportunity with others. To experience the sublime and inspiring Messiah at home or in your congregations, see the options below.

Live Stream

The Easter Concert will be broadcast live over the Internet as it happens in real time beginning at 7:30 p.m. MDT on Friday, April 18. Visit mormontabernaclechoir.org/messiah at that time to view the performance.

On-Demand Video

Shortly after the conclusion of the live broadcast on April 18th, a recording of the performance will be available on-demand as a YouTube video. The on-demand video opportunity allows fans of the Choir who were not able to attend in-person or view the live broadcast to watch the concert at their convenience throughout the Easter weekend. The on-demand video will be found at mormontabernaclechoir.org/messiah as well as the Choir's YouTube channel, YouTube.com/MormonTabChoir.
