Starting Today: Peanut Butter Lover's Day Promo at Hy-Vee
Once again, Hy-Vee and Skippy are teaming up in support of the DMARC Food Pantry Network! From today until March 2, for every 3 pounds sold of Skippy peanut butter, Hy-Vee and Skippy will donate 1 pound to the Food Pantry Network. The promotion is in celebration of Peanut Butter Lover's Day, Sunday, March 1st.
Last year, 1,500 cans of Skippy peanut butter was donated, an equivalent to 1406.55 pounds of peanut butter. That amount is enough to supply DMARC's Food Pantry Network with peanut butter for two weeks.
Please consider buying some Skippy peanut butter from Hy-Vee this week to support the Food Pantry Network! You might even buy a few extra jars to place in the Red Barrel to maximize your contribution. Thank you for your support! |

Hans Peterson CD Release Concert to Benefit DMARC
Musician Hans Peterson will be holding an album release concert for his new album "Every Breath I Sing" on Friday, March 13, 7:00 p.m. at Java Joes Coffeehouse, 214 4th Street in downtown Des Moines. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person, or $25 per family (more if you can, less if you can't).
This forthcoming collection features some notable regional players including Peter Ostroushko on mandolin and marks a mature new phase in Hans' discography. These 17 songs explore various themes: delighting in a child as he grows, taking care of Grandma in her last days, and settling on a farm. The album is full of heartfelt Midwestern-centric songwriting, as well as some beautiful interpretations of traditional Nordic tunes.

Correction to notice in The Voice
The Feinstein Foundation has suspended its annual $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger until further notice in order to concentrate on its ever increasing number of Feinstein Jr. Scholars.
Since 2000, DMARC has participated in the Feinstein Hunger Challenge, which helped increase awareness of hunger and leveraged resources during a time of year when donations are typically lower.
This year, gifts received in March and April will be more important than ever in helping DMARC provide much-needed food for our neighbors who are struggling.
If you or your group planned to participate in the Feinstein Challenge, we invite you to leverage your gifts through the Douglas M. Woods "Challenge Hunger" Campaign! From March 1 through April 30, cash donations to DMARC that are noted as "Challenge Hunger" gifts will be matched 50 cents for every dollar, up to a total of $20,000 given.
Thank you for your support!

This Thursday: The Comparison Project
The Jewish mystical tradition, like all mystical traditions, has had to deal with the issue of language and the communication of mystical experience. In responding to this basic issue, Jewish mystics did not emphasize ineffability. Instead, they answered the conceptual matters raised by the challenge of language by creating a theology that drew on the material in, and the interpretation of, the Hebrew Bible.
Dr. Katz serves on the Academic Committee of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, chairs the Holocaust Commission of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, and serves as Academic Adviser to the 31 countries that make up the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. He has published numerous works on the Holocaust and Jewish philosophy as well as five seminal books on comparative mysticism all from Oxford University Press.

The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of over 130 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2012 LIVE UNITED Advocate Award from the United Way of Central Iowa, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines.
