February 3 Winter Thaw Sessions
The Reclaiming Tradition
Come on a journey of reclaiming tradition. This session will discuss ancient rituals, invocations, exercises and magic. Kimberly will discuss the rebirth of this ancient religion of the great Goddess, the Reclaiming Tradition founded by Starhawk. Sometimes referred to as Wicca, this is a practice of witchcraft. Often misunderstood in our society, Kimberly will dispel the myths of witches and uncover why the Earth is the focus of this practice. Learn what this ancient religion is about and participate in a ritual experience using the elements.
Kimberly Kelley has been practicing witchcraft and facilitating rituals for 14 years. Early in 2000, Kimberly discovered the book Pagan Ways and she immediately knew she was Pagan. The connection to the Earth, the use of energy and the focus on intention changed her world forever. She took classes at Ancient Ways and eventually taught them. The foundation of the courses is based on The Spiral Dance, Starhawk's book outlining the Reclaiming Tradition's method of witchcraft. Kimberly comes to Winter Thaw in perfect love and perfect trust (a phrase all witches know). Her professional career gives her background in public speaking and group work.

The Transcendental Meditation Technique:
What Can TM Do For Me?
TM technique is a systematic means for turning the attention powerfully within to experience deeper levels of the mind until one settles to the simplest form of human awareness. Underlying all the elements is a unifying field. Once your body and mind is free of stress, one can appreciate the full value of all layers of creation, such as intelligence, energy, universal love and peace. TM is an effortless technique for developing the full potential of the mind and body to its maximum. Recommended by the American Heart Association, this presentation will explain the benefits of regular practice, including a Brain Wave Coherence demo.
Anne Flodihn Shook became a teacher of the TM technique in Spain, 1973. After studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi she began teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the US including Orange County California, New York, Seattle, and currently in Fairfield and Des Moines. She has fond memories teaching the TM technique to children in schools of India and working with the David Lynch Foundation, teaching the TM technique to military suffering from PTSD. She enjoys specializing in TM programs for women and children. Through the years Anne has participated in many global TM program initiatives promoting cultural integrity, world harmony and peace.

The Wind Moving Over the Waters: Elements in/of Biblical Texts
This course will explore a few of the many biblical texts that feature the elements as key aspects of creation and of humanity's relationship to the rest of creation. Recognizing some of the word plays in the Hebrew and Greek texts (earthlings from Earth and wind that is also spirit/God's breath) can help us learn to live more responsibly in our shared home.
Jan Everhart is an ordained United Methodist elder (since 1981) and now an Associate Professor of Religion at Simpson College, with an academic specialty in Biblical Studies. Her research interests include ecological readings of biblical texts and gender studies related to the Bible.
Winter Thaw features four nights of sessions, and participants can attend one session each evening of Winter Thaw. Information and registration for Winter Thaw is available online at dmarcunited.org/winterthaw. Student discounts are available.
