DMARC will change over to summer hours beginning June 1. The DMARC office hours remain the same Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will close at 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. The warehouse opens earlier on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as an hour on Saturday. By having extended warehouse hours, DMARC hopes to increase availability for the donation of fresh produce. The summer hours for DMARC's Food Pantry Network warehouse are below.

Two New Farmers Markets Open

Lutheran Services in Iowa's Global Greens Farmers' Market (pictured above) and Oakridge Neighborhood Farmers Market are open this summer, adding two new farmers markets to the greater Des Moines area.
LSI Global Greens Farmers' Market is held on Saturdays, June through September, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the LSI Refugee Connection Center, 3200 University Ave in Des Moines. The market vendors are former refugees reconnecting with the land through LSI's Global Greens agricultural programs. Purchases help support their small businesses as they build new lives in Iowa. The Global Greens Farmers' Market accepts EBT, WIC and senior market vouchers. Their produce is certified naturally grown. Contact globalgreens@LSIowa.org for questions.
Oakridge Neighborhood Farmers Market is open Wednesdays from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Silver Oaks Senior Living, 979 Oakridge Drive in Des Moines. The farmers market runs from June 18 to September 24. DMCAA 2014 Garden Project
|

The Des Moines Community Action Agency's 2014 Garden Project aims to help families grow food in their own personal gardens. The program provides families with $25 certificates to Hy-Vee Garden Centers in Des Moines, which they can use to purchase vegetable seeds and plants of their choice.
A limited number of certificates are available to be distributed on a first come first served basis. You must be a resident of Des Moines to apply for this program, and live at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guideline.

Grand View Summer Learning Camps
|
|
The Grand View Summer Learning Clinics are designed for students with academic and/or social challenges to prepare them for the upcoming school year by refreshing their reading, writing, math and/or social skills.
Academic Clinic
July 7-25
9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Social Clinic
July 15-25
2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Both clinics are for students grades 1-5. A fee of $10 for one clinic, or $15 for both for one child is charged. Financial support is available by contacting the program director.
While at camp your children will:
- Be assessed in areas they may struggle.
- Learn in a small group or individual setting through direct instruction, activities and games.
- Have fun with their college instructor through games, group activities and snacks.
Students need to attend daily and will be provided a snack. Clinics will not be held on Saturdays and Sundays.

Coping with Grief Symposium

Hamilton's Funeral Home will be hosting a Coping with Grief Symposium on Monday, June 2, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The symposium will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines.
Carrie Bauer and Sasha Mudlaff will be presenting the Coping with Grief Symposium. During the symposium, families will be able to visit with Community Representatives at display tables. Refreshments will be provided. A memorial candle lighting will conclude the program. |

Who Are We?
The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of over 130 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2012 LIVE UNITED Advocate Award from the United Way of Central Iowa, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines. In 2013, the DMARC Food Pantry Network assisted more than 34,000 individuals in the greater Des Moines community; half of whom are children and youth.
MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on more than 37 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat. |
