Jane Foundation Seeking Instrument Donations
|
|
The Jane Foundation is joining in a Des Moines summer program emphasizing reading help and enrichment for students most in need academically.
"What we need are used instruments that can be repaired. These instruments are probably lying around in your dusty attics. Locating and using these instruments is crucial to the success of our summer program," says Joanne Muldoon, Co-President of The Jane Foundation.
At this time, the foundation is looking for smaller-sized stringed instruments, violins, violas and cellos, and keyboards and drums. They plan on serving 50 children at King Elementary School, a highly impoverished area. If you would like to help this program financially, visit www.JaneFoundation.com, and follow directions to give to the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. Contributions can also be sent to The Jane Foundation, P.O. Box 41391, Des Moines, IA 50311. Most monies received will be applied to the expenses of this project including personnel and instrument repair. All donations are tax-deductible.
The Jane Foundation has selected musical instrument lessons as one of its signature programs. This program will be an initial attempt to serve this Mid-City neighborhood. The Foundation sees music as being critical to a child's development, not only for the creative aspects, but also to foster life skills. The Foundation was established in late 2011 by an initial gift from Dr. M. Jane Bibber at the time of her death. The Director and Co-Founder is Jane E. Magers, a long-time activist in these under-served Des Moines neighborhoods.
Contact The Jane Foundation at 515-280-5129 or e-mail keepinkidsfirst@gmail.com.
