In the CItY (Community of Interfaith Youth) we engage youth of different religious backgrounds to use their religious difference as an opportunity to be compassionate and serve one another and the greater community in which they live.

A Legacy - Larry Myers was passionate about serving the community. He served as
president of DMARC and the DMARC Foundation, and he played a key role in bringing the Jewish community into the DMARC family.
Additionally, his leadership moved DMARC to play key role in establishing Hospice of Central Iowa. Larry fervently believed in
DMARC's service initiatives.

Parents, pastors, and youth leaders,
Here is an invitation to a day of learning and fun for youth ages 14- to 18-year-olds! Deadline to register is Wednesday, January 15, 2014.
If your high schoolers need volunteer hours for graduation... let them know about this opportunity to learn about social justice in our community. They'll get 2 hours of volunteer credit if they bring their forms with them for the all-day course.

Do you want to make a difference right here in Des Moines?
The Interfaith Youth Justice Camp (for high schoolers, ages 14 to 18 years old) will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Friends House, 4211 Grand Ave., in Des Moines. This day-long youth camp includes the following activities: - Guest Speakers
- Travel to a community outreach organization
- Tour DMARC food pantry site
- Visit a worship space of at least one DMARC partner
- Games and opportunities for sharing
- Prayers from various faith traditions.
Cost is $25. Scholarships are available. Click here to print a poster. This would be a great option for youth groups to attend together. Register by going online to print a registration form. Then complete and send the form and check payable to: DMARC, 3816 36th St., Ste. 202, Des Moines, IA 50310-4710. Or contact the DMARC Office at: 515-277-6969.
This event is facilitated by the Center for Social Ministry, an organization that provides poverty awareness/justice education programming in Des Moines.

Who we are?
DMARC is the acronym for the Des Moines Area Religious Council, an interfaith organization with a core membership of over 133 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2012 Live United Advocate Award from the United Way of Central Iowa, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network is the largest in Iowa, made up of a centralized warehouse and 13 partnering distribution sites. The DMARC Food Pantry network helps meet short-term food needs when families do not have enough to eat. Once each month, families can receive a free, four-day supply of nutritionally balanced food. In 2013, DMARC assisted more than 34,000 individuals in the Greater Des Moines community; half of whom were children and youth.
MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on more than 37 years of food assistance work, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat.
