 Greetings!
The Des Moines Area Religious Council's new interfaith tours that began in May of this year are a hit! Don't miss your opportunity to take the bus and be part of our Beyond Beliefs Tour on Thursday, August 22. Extra space is being provided and we can accommodate more participants!
Tours are guided and include lunch and transportation. The cost for the six-hour tour is $30 per person.
Registrations are now being accepted. Future tour dates and host sites will be announced at: www.dmreligious.org/faithtours. For reservations or questions, contact Development Associate Sonya Dettmann at 515-277-6969, ext. 16.
DMARC is supported by a diverse variety of faith congregations. We are committed to increasing awareness and cross-cultural understanding for cohesive communities. This tour showcases these different faith practices and traditions, explores symbolism, and highlights the rich history of architectural design.
The August 22nd tour includes the following host sites:
Beth El Jacob Synagogue, Des Moines - the most traditional and only orthodox synagogue in the Des Moines Area. Discover the history of tradition and religion, including the importance of kosher practices and meanings behind the Torah Scrolls.
All Saints Learning Center, Stuart - beginning with a short video of the fire that nearly destroyed this Catholic church in 1995, see how this church has literally risen from the ashes. Experience interactive video kiosks that highlight different faiths and help promote religious tolerance.
Oreon E. Scott Chapel on the Drake University campus, Des Moines - unique in its circular design and sky-lit white marble communion table. An intimate, symbolic, and reflective space used for quiet meditation.
Basilica of St. John, Des Moines - stunning Romanesque architecture with 46 stained glass windows and gold coffered ceiling is sure to impress. One of only two Basilicas in the state of Iowa.
Several additional dates and locations are being planned for small and large groups to tour buildings of central Iowa faith communities. Learn something new and meet new people!
Special thanks to our premier sponsor GuideOne Insurance and transportation sponsor, Keck Parking!
