Food Pantry Network
Warehouse Associate

 

Purpose:

 

The purpose of this position is to assist the DMARC Food Pantry Network Director in managing the operations of the Food Pantry Network warehouse. This is a full-time position working primarily Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. There may be an occasional need for evening or weekend hours.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the managing of the everyday activities of the warehouse operation, including maintaining a safe and organized environment
  • Work with a wide variety of volunteers training and assisting them in the proper procedures of the warehouse
  • Provide support for food pantry network's information management system
  • Greet and assist individuals as they drop off donations to the warehouse
  • Verify that pantry orders have been picked
  • Pick orders if needed
  • Assist with inventory control by properly organizing and rotating stock on a weekly basis
  • Maintain the volunteer calendar and truck schedule calendar
  • Fill in as needed with truck driving
  • Fill in for the director when needed

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of people and treat all individuals with respect and dignity
  • Demonstrated good verbal communication skills and express enthusiasm and appreciation to donors
  • Demonstrated ability to train and lead others in a respectful manner
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills
  • Demonstrated basic computer, email and phone skills with a willingness to answer questions in a polite manner
  • Demonstrated ability with database programs
  • Ability and willingness to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly throughout the work day
  • Ability and willingness to drive a cargo van and a cube truck
  • Must be able to pass both a criminal and drivers background check

This position is supervised by the Food Pantry Network Director. A job review is conducted annually.

 

Hours/week: Full-time. Evening and weekend hours as required.

Who are we?

 

The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of about 140 congregations from four faith traditions. Recipient of the 2010 Aurora Award from The Des Moines Register, DMARC's mission is: Religious communities working together to meet basic human needs.

 

The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 13 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and nine sites in Des Moines. In 2012, the DMARC Food Pantry Network served up to 33,000 people, half of them children and youth.  

 

MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on more than 36 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat.
