There's lots of new things going on at the shop these days. Stop in if you haven't been by lately! For right now, we have super exciting news to announce for the beer geeks out there. Here's a hint: How to Brew with Monks ;) And if you want to grow your own hops we are now taking pre-orders for rhizomes, & we are now hosting winemaking classes, too! If you think you might dig even one of these things, then read on, friends!
Beer book gurus John Palmer & Stan Hieronymus to Visit Butler Winery!

The Brewers Of Indiana Guild is hosting its first annual Brewer's Conference in Bloomington on the first weekend of March. Two featured speakers at this conference are John Palmer & Stan Hieronymus. Butler Winery has agreed to set up a table at the conference & sell a selection of their books.
So why does this really matter to you? Well, a super cool benefit of this conference coming to Btown is that John & Stan have both agreed to come to our shop on Friday, March 6th to do a meet and greet with our brewers!  And if you are a homebrewer & these names seem familiar to you, they should! These renowned authors of the beer world have published a total of 6 books between them. Hieronymus has written For the Love of Hops, Brew Like A Monk, and Brewing with Wheat. Palmer has written the ever popular, How To Brew & also co-authored Water & Brewing Classic Styles. These are all wonderful books, chock-full of info that every brewer should have at their fingertips!
    beer books
As for the meet & greet at our shop on Friday afternoon, they are both due to arrive about 3:30, with official introductions to start at 4:00. To lead it off, John will do a quick talk on his 5 priorities of great beer, then Stan will do a similar thing, focusing on 5 points from a combo of his most popular books, hops & monks. They will then do a joint Q & A session (this is where you come in!) and then we will do the meeting and greeting (this is also all about you!)

SO if you want to pick some expert beer brains on how to make your beer better, this is the time to do it! This is a first time thing for us & a wonderful opportunity that you won't want to miss! Be sure to bring along a copy of one of their books, & get it autographed, or if you don't have one of their books yet we will have some copies available for purchase as well. Hope to see you for this exciting event!!

Time to get in your hop rhizome pre-orders!

As we do every spring, we will have hop rhizomes available for sale starting late March/early April. We have been taking pre-orders all month, but we need to get our order in to our west-coast growers soon so they will know how many roots to dig for us.

If you haven't yet considered growing your own hops, you really should! They are easy to grow, look pretty & smell good too. Hops have great medicinal value but are mainly used to add bitterness, flavor and aroma to beer. They will grow best when planted in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. And if you plant them early enough, you might just get a crop on the first season!

We always try to have extras available but if you want to make sure you get your preferred varieties, be sure to place your order by no later than this Saturday!

2015 Available varieties include: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Golding, Liberty, Mt. Hood, Northern Brewer, Nugget, Sterling, Tettnang and Willamette. They are $6 each or $5 each for a purchase of 6 or more varieties, mix or match.

More info, including pdfs describing each variety & how to grow them can be found on the brew supply page on our website. Email or call us at 812.339.7233 with your pre-orders now, or stop by in the next few days & let us know what you want to grow!

Winemaking (& brewing) classes are here!
If you are a brewer & want to learn how easy it is to make your own wine at home, sign up for one of our new winemaking classes!

Or if you are a winemaker or extract brewer and want to learn how to make beer from scratch, sign up for one of our all-grain brewing classes!

Our goal is to offer each class monthly.  The all-grain beer classes are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month. Winemaking classes are now held on the third Saturday of the month.

Both classes start about noon and cost just $15 per person.  Each participant will receive a 10% off coupon that can be applied toward their next beer or wine making supply purchase in our brew shop! Class sizes are limited to 10, and the classes fill quickly so plan ahead!

Email us or call (812.339.7233) with any questions you may have about the classes or to sign up! Be sure and bring a friend and make it more fun!

And coming soon, extract classes for beginning brewers, small scale all-grain classes & funky wine classes too!

We hope this finds you well & staying warm. As always, thank you for shopping local! We know there are a lot of places you can buy your wine and beer stuff, and we really appreciate your business.  We strive to provide you affordable prices, a great selection and the best customer service experience every time you shop Butler. So if you have any suggestions, complaints, or hopefully, praises, please let us know!

Cheers to you & yours!
Amy
